Oversleep Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Disclaimer: I haven't read SH yet, so if I'm missing some vital info, forgive me. We know that those so-called Bands Of Mourning didn't actually belong to Rashek. They were made by the Sovereignor, known as Survivor in the North. Kelsier. We know he survived his death and Ascended, but we don't know how he made it back to the land of the living and how he gained full Feruchemy (I'm assuming his status of Mistborn didn't change). And then I realized how could it be possible. Who do we know that could communicate with Kelsier, that had a unused at the moment body at the ready, had the power and the will to do it? Sazed. He wasn't using his body, it was in some kind of stasis (as evidenced by Leras and Ati bodies dropping after they were killed, even if they ascended thousands of years ago). So he bound Kelsier to his body by Hemalurgy. This explains how Kelsier acquired a living body and how he entered it. And this also explains where did his Feruchemy came from. And why he has a spike shoved through his eye in the first place. Of course, there is the issue of the appearance: why did Kelsier look like himself? Perhaps his Cognitive and Spiritual aspect overwrote the Physical. Maybe it was part of the Hemalurgy binding (as we know, Hemalurgy twists recipients and this seems quite easy - body without soul and mind and Shadow with mind and soul - most of the inhuman effects of twisting comes from multiple human attributes overlapping). Maybe he used some kind of Feruchemy to do this (Compound gold so much that the body heals to match the Identity he could also Compound). There's another issue: why did Sazed was able to bring Kelsier back but not Vin and Elend? Maybe he had time to learn how to do this, maybe they just went Beyond in contrast to Kelsier who stayed. My headcanon until proven wrong. Edited May 5, 2016 by Oversleep 1
Khyrindor he/him Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Yeah you should definitely read Secret History. If you don't care about spoilers, open the tags below. One more thing. VERY spoilery title, please consider editing that. When people die, their minds stick around for a few minutes in the Cognitive Realm. This happened to Wax at the end of BoM, and to Kelsier right after he died. However, Kelsier was able to con Preservation into putting him in the Well of Ascension and Preserving. He was released as a kind of Sliver after Vin released the power. Eventually, he took up the Shard of Preservation after Leras died, and at the end passed it on to Vin. When both Vin and Elend died, Vin had the choice of being Preserved since she was a Sliver, but Elend did not. He stretched into the Beyond, and Vin followed. Kell asks Sazed to give him a body, but he declines, so he goes to Spook instead and gets him to experiment with Hemalurgy. That is as far as we know. We don't know whose body it is, or how you can spike Cognitive Shadows into one, but that's how it works. Sorry for the theory-killing. 1
Eccentric Hero he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 IWINULOSE2 In Mistborn 3, What happened to Kelsier's bones, and will they play any significance in any of the sequels? BRANDON SANDERSONThe bones survived the events of the last book. We might see them again. Speaking of relic-like items, Sazed's rings survived as well. We might see those again. Maybe his skeleton was involved. Secret History does not explain how he came back to the physical.
