Just curious if anyone on here does any crafting in real life. Blacksmithing, wood working, leather working and things of that nature, cosplayers too. Everyone is welcome to talk about what they do, future and current projects and even what the want to do.

Myself, I want to start smithing as soon as I can. I have always thought that it was an awesome profession. As of now I'm waiting till my wife and I get our own house so I can get my katana blade out of storage to redress it. I am going to make a new sheath and handle for it as well as put a new tsuba and all the other furniture on it. It will be a heron mark blade when all is said an done.

Me.  I'm a cosplayer.  I learned how to make chainmail and scalemail specifically for costuming.  I take nerdery to a whole new level of crazy.

Current project:  Jean Grey in armor, as if she were a D&D character instead of an X-Man.  And there's a link to my cosplay thread in Creator's Corner in my sig.

Kaymyth, thats awesome. I would love to see that, Jean Grey as a mage.

Also, Honor. Those are beautiful paintings I thought the palm tree was a picture at first.

More of a battle mage than anything.  Strict D&D rules, I should be rolling for encumbrance-based spell failure.

But I won't.  Because it's a costume and I'll wear it if I want to.

Haha. So a classy Jean costume? That's rare, also you should carry a die with you just to roll for encumberance.

Yup.  Scale and chainmail mixed with faux leather armor and lots of coverage.  Because face it, chainmail bikinis may be fun to look at, but they're ridiculously impractical.

Pish.  I'm not actually gonna be that encumbered, I don't think.  The mail is all aluminum, and the vinyl faux leather is going to be backed by craft foam.  It shouldn't be that heavy, and I'll just tell people it's magical armor.  :D

Besides, Jean should rightly be a psionicist, not a mage anyway.

Some very unambitious woodwork in my spare time; wooden weapons to take to D&D sessions, the occasional bookshelf, and one bow that snapped when I was trying to bend it into shape. Planning on making a second bow when I have a proper plan and schematics, as well as flexible wood I'll have to bring from outside my nearby area, where the only trees are oak and pine.

I believe it.

I made some chainmail underwear when I was like 8 or 9... never actually wore it, and it was really closer to a chainmail thong, but whatev...

edit for claritys sake:

I was in a skit in which I was a blacksmith, and that seemed like an easy thing to do with a bunch of copper rings. I don't recal it having any actual effect on the story, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

It was pretty bad, actually... and the rings were like half an inch across, so it wouldn't have done much IRL...
