Kelsier likely learned about nicrosil while holding Preservation. I get the feeling he picked up a LOT of information during his ascension. We know this happens, and Allomancy is of Preservation. He also held it for considerably longer than Rashek. (I wonder if being a sliver made him a more powerful allomancer?) He certainly figured out hemalurgy fast. Edited June 3, 2016 by Kingsdaughter613

A trueself can't use the Rashek's Band (if they existed in the first place) because He lacks of Nicrosil Feruchemy (if Rashek didn't used the "trick" used in Medallion's tech) not Atium. Rashek didn't became a more powerful Allomancer for being a Sliver.... He rebuilded itself as powerful as he could with the well's power... it wasn't a side effect, but like what Harmony did with Spook, He rebuild his Connection with Preservation to be stronger. And Kelsier probably don't know Hemalurgy deeply as Rashek... during TLR's ascension, Ruin whispered Hemalurgy's info to him.... the default comprension of Kelsier would be less (and He took just partially the Shard for his peculiar situation) Edited June 3, 2016 by Yata
