[Secret History Spoilers] Preservation Really Pulled A Coup!

So having finished Secret History I have to say: Preservation/Leras really rocks the Cosmere. Reading the original trilogy it's always impressive how his plan works out to essentially neutralize Ruin forever. What the Secret History shows is that he managed to pull off this plan (with some help admittedly) right under the Cosmere's noses. It's like he managed to not only preserve his shard and capture another, but also to do so while fooling everyone else into thinking it was hopeless and that they should stay away.

Preservation singlehandedly changes the balance of the cosmere, literally preserving his planet and others by preventing Ruin from running about like Odium.

Basically, I think it could be argued that Preservation managed to fulfill his intent better than any other shard we've seen so far.

Of course, it's also nice to see how Kelsier continues to break all the rules.

I really like this idea, and would like to expand on it a bit.  So, we see Kelsier intentionally not tell Goradel that the latter's quest was successful, so as to prevent Ruin from catching on.  I wonder if Preservation was doing the same thing to Kelsier the entire time.  For example, the part where he shows Kelsier the future was almost unprompted, but necessary to have him go west to foil the Eyree/Ire's plot without Ruin realizing how vital it was.  Even the part where he shoves Kelsier into the prison is strange, especially given everyone's reactions afterwards.

I honestly think that Leras planned from the beginning to have Kelsier show up and eliminate these threats, knowing full well that everyone would ignore or dismiss the random Cognitive Shadow.  I don't think he foresaw everything (such as stabbing Elend), but he probably had a good idea.

This is why I think Sanderson had him keep saying, "It was a really brilliant plan...now if only i could remember it." He set all of those dominoes up, waaaaayyy back at the beginning.

Whoever takes initiative and forces the opposing party into a reactionary position has essentially, assuming sufficient skill to see it through, controlled the entire board from the start.

You do things that will force them to react in predictable ways, make them think it's their plan going off without a hitch when their plan basically came from you. Make them see success, that they are one step ahead of you, so that they overlook the skipped steps in between (do believe that last bit is actually Vin logic).

Leras had basically pulled a Classic Kelsier style plan on the cosmere, it seems. Took the absurd objective and worked the details until everything clicked. All he had to do was start it off and watch Ruin fight himself into a corner.

I really like this idea of relating Kelsier's plan to Preservation's plan. The parallel even extends to how both had to die to see their plan work correctly.

Even better, the plans were intentionally designed to work better if they died.

Which is probably why he told Kelsier to survive in the Pits. He -needed- Kelsier to survive or else the whole plan would've gone pear shaped.
