We have a secondhand report from Miyabi actually, that says that Hoid was at the Shattering of Adonalsium. Was he there? Brandon Sanderson Yes he was. was this the one we also know as Wit / Topaz .....that calls himself Hoid or was this the person that was actually named Hoid ? - his master ?

King's Twit he/him Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Since our Hoid personally knew most or all of the Sixteen before they took up their Shards, and the author of the second letter seems to place responsibility for the Shattering on our Hoid and himself, it makes sense that the WoB which refer to Hoid being around before the Shattering and present when it happened are referring to the current Hoid, rather than his old master. But your point is still an interesting possibility that shouldn't be discounted. Way to think outside the box!

Weltall Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Yeah, while we know they're not canon and what we'll eventually get will be different in any number of ways, the Liar of Partinel sample chapters give us every reason to believe that the Hoid present at the Shattering is 'our' Hoid. It would require really big changes to everything we know and have been told about the plot progression of Dragonsteel for things to be otherwise.

The revised first chapter even practically begins with these words: "Hoid, senior jesk and master Lightweaver, was dead". Liar takes place pre-Shattering, therefore the Hoid who was present at the Shattering must be the person we know as Hoid. Edited January 27, 2016 by Weltall
