leinton Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Yes, but most of the glyphs, no matter what type, won't change your rotation. The only exception I've seen to that rule is the Frostfire glyph, and that's just so they can still have a Frostfire spec for mages. Also, it's prime glyphs that boost damage. Quote from Ghostcrawler: We don't want glyphs to change rotations. We feel that was a mistake in LK.
Munin he/him Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Personally, I'm still disappointed by Heroic Leap. It's so redundant as to be comical.
KChan she/her Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 Never mind the fact that some players like customizing their gameplay. To mandate rotations is to force every player of every spec to use the exact same rotation, totally negating things like individual play style, player skill, and so on. Thanks, Blizzard. You just made the game a lot more boring for me.
leinton Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 When I get bored of rotations, I pvp for a while. It's very very hard to get a specific rotation when people are blasting you and stunning you and all that jazz. On the other hand, it's nice that the "rotations" in WoW are become more of "priority lists."

KChan she/her Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 Perhaps, but that's based on the opinion of the player base. It's different from Blizzard telling you, "you absolutely have to do it this way to play your class correctly," which is what the Eclipse system seems (in my opinion) to be trying to do. Perhaps I'll adjust to it when Cat comes out, but half the fun of the game for me is figuring out a rotation that suits me and my play own play style the best, not going onto wowwiki to see what everyone else does. And judging by my DPS output, it's worked pretty well so far.

And judging by my DPS output, it's worked pretty well so far. I actually disagree here. Blizzard has indirectly told every player how to DPS. Well, not told them how, but set up an efficient rotation. As a DK, you can make up your own rotation, but your runes will be all over the place unless you use them in a specific order, and only dump your runic power at specific times. As a prot warrior, if you don't follow the priority system, your threat output will suffer. As a hunter, if you use the wrong shot at the wrong time, you'll do less damage. If an Arms warrior refreshes Rend at the wrong time, he loses an Overpower proc. I don't deny that it's possible to freestyle it a bit and still get good results. But the fact is that there's always a mathematically superior option (although that can vary for some specs based on gear). They're not trying to make every rotation viable. They're trying to make every spec viable.
KChan she/her Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 And I don't want them to make every rotation viable. Like I said, part of the fun is figuring out what works. And making every spec viable is possible without a system that literally tells you when to cast which spell.
leinton Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 That last bit is kind of annoying. I hope you can turn stuff like that off... I mean, I like it obvious when a proc happens, but I really don't like the spells I'm supposed to use lighting up. It's nice for a beginner, but you're only a beginner for so long. One nice thing about eclipse is that you get eclipse faster with crits, and lose it faster with crits. So, you can't time how long you're going have the buff. It feels less... rotational.
KChan she/her Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Oh, well that's good at least. A little responsive gameplay will help break the formulaic feeling I've been getting from reviews of the Eclipse system.
