Moogle Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) As far as I recall, Brandon has said normal physics still apply in the Cosmere. Bendalloy and cadmium mess this up, because you can't just play with time without messing up space. When a cadmium bubble goes up, slowing the inside, it should instantly cause any light sources from the outside to seem brighter by a factor of how much time is slowed down, because that many more photons should enter the bubble. Basically, a decent use of cadmium should cause the sun to burn you alive. Opposite problem with bendalloy: by speeding up the inside, light sources from outside should seem less bright by a factor of how much time is sped up. Neither of these things seem to happen. Does anyone have an explanation? At this point, I'm betting that the answer is magic, because slowing down/speeding up time should also affect space (according to various physics theories I do not feel like going into) and it does not. Perhaps regular physics could be salvaged if one brought a watch into the speedbubbles and found out that it did not tick faster/slower than the outside, and the speed bubble just plays havoc with any Cognitive beings in the area. This seems unlikely for a number of reasons. Edited October 18, 2013 by Moogle
Kadrok she/her Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) This has been talked about before, with Peter putting it down to handwavium I believe. Let me just find the link... EDIT: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/233-redshift/?p=3277 There you go. Edited October 19, 2013 by Kadrok 1
