Yata he/him Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Re: mechanical allomancy; Rosharian Fabrials are investiture powered devices that in a limited way imitate the native surges. Why couldn't there be an equivalent technology for other magic systems that works on the same principles? Stormlight Archive: The problem is that on Roshar (and Sel) there is Splinters that may work as "mechanical Manifestation of Investiture" without a Human's presence. But on Scadrial al the Manifestation of Investiture are genetic based and there is nothing "without Human's presence". It's quite different and less easy to explain. Edited September 29, 2015 by Yata
Oudeis he/him Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Please mark Stormlight Archive spoilers, as we are in the Mistborn forum. Stormlight Archive: Also; fabrials as we know them (the Modern Fabrials) do not mimic Surges. We've seen the Regrowth Fabrial in a vision and in Nalan's hands, we've seen Soulcasters left over from ancient days that no one can make and very few people can fix, and the Oathgates might mimic transportation. But modern artifabrians operate on entirely different principles. What I'm saying is, we know nothing about the Surge-fabrials you're talking about. Maybe they were made directly by Honor and given to mankind along with the Honorblades. Maybe they were made by the Heralds. Maybe they are other trapped spren. Or, maybe they are just something some smart people made one day that mimic Surges. We have no idea. Edited September 29, 2015 by Oudeis
Stormgate he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Do you think that Brandon Sanderson just looks at some of these forums and either laughs or scratches his head? Being completely serious, we are talking about a Doomsday bunker created by Allomancy. 2
Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) Do you think that Brandon Sanderson just looks at some of these forums and either laughs or scratches his head? Being completely serious, we are talking about a Doomsday bunker created by Allomancy. To be honest, I doubt he's around here much, if at all; he's awfully busy. Peter Ahlstrom is, though, and I imagine that every once in a while he stumbles across something particularly hilarious and passes it on to Brandon. Edited October 20, 2015 by Kaymyth 1
Oudeis he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I heard somewhere that he tries to avoid it for several very good reasons, but Peter is here a LOT. He even speaks up sometimes, especially when his name is spoken, and then we shower him with upvotes. And lo, the great circle of Team Dragonsteel is complete once more.
