I know that there's been talk about something like this, which maybe you've heard, maybe not.

We've been planning on doing a readthrough of Way of Kings in preparation for Words of Radiance. I know that Tor.Com is doing one, but I think it might be a bit more fun to do one here that's very cosmere aware, so that we can show you all the cool things you may have missed, and you can show us the things that we've missed.

Anyway, sound off below and in the poll above. Let us know if there's something specific you want to see, and we may very well include it!

I've never been much one for read-alongs, if only because I plan for my next re-read of WoK to be in the week before I get my copy of WoR. A Cosmere-aware version of the Tor re-read might be interesting to read on its own, though.

EDIT: Not that I don't enjoy the. . .interesting theories the Tor readers come up with ;)

Who is this Harmony person.. gosh! First you make Shiv change the yummy chat topic, and now this *tugs on her imaginary braid*

On another note, great idea :D

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean with "readthrough"? Like, you guys re-read the book while posting a commentary for each chapter pointing out relevant bits?

Basically, that's the general idea, although we're welcoming any suggestions on what else you'd like to see. I'll be helping with this, and in general I'd be looking at a much quicker summary than Tor does, considering that in theory most of you are reading along with us. A little bit of epigraph discussion, and then a move on to how this impacts the rest of the book, series, and cosmere itself. I'd put those in marked spoiler sections so if this was the first time you're reading it, you won't get spoiled on it all. Just as a note, this isn't a guarantee of what it's going to look like, more my general ideas on it.

I'm game. Perhaps a Subsection of WoK forums, and threads separating epigraphs and chapters? Possibly having everyone delineate posts into subsections

Ex:

I: Chapter summary

II: Magic Implications

III: Cosmere Implication

commerce to Cosmere.

Hmm, let me think on this a bit. I personally, would not be opposed to a subforum for the reread. The question there would be whether we make a new topic for every installment, or simply allow everyone to make their own topics, or some combo of both. That all can be ironed out. I'm not sure about your second suggestion though. I don't want to tell people what specifically they have to reply to and in what order. And, if I may ask, why commerce implications? That seems kind of oddly specific, to me at least.

LoL Kindle didn't recognize Cosmere yet. :P I'm of the opinion that Chapter subsections would allow for quicker access to specific information. Perhaps others feel that this is a hobby, but I was thinking this reread to be more of focused analysis of the little information we have from WoK. Really the book only touches on a several very important, and a chapter by chapter in-depth review might help some of us dissect some much needed information.

Also I'm not so much for telling everyone what they have to say, so much as I'm requesting that information be specifically tagged as to what it relates to.

Edit: grammatical errors

Okay, the cosmere/commerce thing seriously made me laugh out loud. From talking to Josh, we haven't been planning on doing it a single chapter at a time. And as for the thing about subsections, I really am of the opinion that I don't want any hard and fast rules on that. If it's something you and others want to do, that's fine. While tagging stuff for the interview database, one thing I've noticed is that it's really hard to delineate things with such black and white lines. Magic and the cosmere are inextricably linked. Kaladin and his story are tied to how he gained magic. I see it as being really difficult to separate into sections.

You make a point about delineation. My idea was more or less to outline specifically what we saw Surge-binding/Soul-casting/Voidbringing wise and then to extrapolate Cosmere implications as we go.  If not by Chapter, what criteria would you like to see threads separated by?

I don't have a problem with chapter topics, all I was saying is it won't be a single chapter at a time. So you might see a topic for chapters one through three, instead of an individual topic for each. Nothing's really concrete yet, though.
