XenosHg Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I don't think anyone here can be spoilered, so let's get to the point. Here I am, in a bus on my way to university, reading Way of Kings, chapter 11 - about Kaladin considering suicide, and thinking about how healing people is better than killing them, until Syl returns with poison leaves just as he's going to step into the chasm. And then he throws the leaves away, and gets up, turns back and goes to try and help his comrades. And right after Syl's return, radio starts playing "If everyone cared". It was so perfectly awesome, I literally cried a bit. 4
Adamir he/him Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 My brother is addicted to listening to Hans Zimmer music (think of the most dramatic ambiance you could comprehend; I think he did some for Pirates of the Caribbean), and it was blaring around the house as I read Kaladin fighting Szeth. Every writer should add a 'suggested background music' note directly underneath chapter headings; otherwise, events like this rely entirely on coincidence. 1
XenosHg Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 I've seen a book mentioned somewhere, which does in fact include "recommended soundtracks" on the first page. But I can't find what it was, sorry. But being random is the best. Yes, I can play a song that has the same plot as the book - stories, thoughts and plots are rarely unique - but the beauty comes from such random occurences. The best performance, after all, is the one that can only be performed once. 2
