S Names

Why do Shallan, Siri, Steris, and Sarene all start with the letter S? Does Brandon use a stereotype that says that women must start with S, or is he relating it to his own name?

Because all those names are freaking awesome, except for "Steris," which just sounds austere.

This happens with other authors as well, and I've seen some say that the names aren't intentional. Of course, it could be some unintentional bias, but I don't know. I would probably do the same thing with "A."

I don't think it's anything bad, it's a fairly common thing to have 'favourite' letters. There are a number of theories, but the most common is a kind of miniature-synesthesia, e.g. they 'associate' that group of people or that aspect of their life with a certain letter, and consequently, will include it more often than other letters.
