Chicken Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 The idea occurred to me that if Lord Ruler had allowed someone to invent condom, noblemen wouldn't be required by law to kill skaa women. That was one of the major ingredients that made skaa angry enough to rebel and this bit of technological progress could've kept the masses a lot more docile, and keeping Lord Ruler's chull on the throne even longer. While he'd probably be overthrown somehow anyway due to divine meddling, this idea is highly amusing. Also, [insert terrible hemalurgy joke here]
name_here Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 They actually did have birth control, hence how Vin managed to remain slender for the entire trilogy.
Eric Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Also, [insert terrible hemalurgy joke here] That's what she said! I feel dirty just for saying that. We need a good "shame" emote.
Yados Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 They actually did have birth control, hence how Vin managed to remain slender for the entire trilogy. Was that mentioned overtly? I don't recall it. It must not have been very effective. Probably no small miracle that Vin wasn't pregnant by the end. ... what would have happened if she had been carrying a child when she took up Preservation? Would the child have just dropped out of her uterus as she ascended to the spiritual realm or would it have sort of tagged along? We still don't know what happens to the physical body.
name_here Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 It's mentioned somewhere in an interview or annotation. I guess it would probably have tagged along. Regardless of any Cognitive or Spiritual aspects, there would be a physical connection, and Preservation and Ruin seem very heavily slanted towards the Physical.
Chicken Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Another and completely unrelated observation (that I don't want to start another silly thread for): Today I realized that Popeye jingle must be played when Vin discovers and drinks the vial of metal during Elend's failing rescue attempt at Kredik Shaw.

Also, [insert terrible hemalurgy joke here] You assume that they see killing skaa women as a bad thing. Really he should have just made interbreeding between skaa and nobles impossible when he genetically modified them. Of course if he had done this, Ruin would have won in time so, it would be bad.
