Why did Kaladin get enslaved

Im at the first interludes, so if the answer is still to come, please don't spoil it. So far I'm lead to believe that he deserted the army? Have i missed something?

Yes, you are most definitely not to the answer yet. The reason for Kaladin's enslavement will become clear in the Third or Fourth part. (I can't remember which) Hang in there! Seeing what happened is worth the wait.
