RLennon Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I have two take aways from this thread +1 with everyone else regarding Rothfuss world of magic. Not just from the Academy, but also the Fey and their magic. I started Malazan, and got half way into the second book, and stalled. Mostly Brandon's fault, LOL!!! I expected a series that had several side plots, but an overarching main plot across the series (Like Wheel of Time). Did I just stop too early, or am I correct in this assessment? Thanks! Rob PS - +1 for Eddings as well
ChickenPlague he/him Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 The MBotF does have a main plot but the first few books are mostly character introduction and most of them come together in the end. Although there are a few loose threads that don't come into play at the end.
Sunbird she/her Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I know people don't really look upon the Inheritance Cycle very highly, but it was probably the first fantasy series I read where the magic seemed like it had rules and limitations and seemed like there was a kind of natural science behind it. I second this. I read Eragon for the first time when I was still in elementary school (because everyone else was reading it), and in hindsight, I now realize that the magic system's level of sophistication in those books was rather unusual.
WayneSpren he/him Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 THERE ARE NO MAGIC SYSTEMS WORTHY OF BRANDON.
