ThatRedHead717 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Okay. The sphere Gavilar gave to Szeth was DEFINITELY anti-voidlight. Here's a quote to back me up. It is from when Navani is studying the sphere at the beginning of Rhythm of War: "It was left in a cave for over 6 years," Navani said. "And it was glowing--or whatever you call that blackness--the same when it was retrieved." Quite strange indeed," Talnah said. "What an odd sphere, Brightness. That must be Voidlight, but it feels wrong. I mean, it's black-violet like others I've seen, but…" "The air warps around it," Navani said. Rhythym of War, Ch. 16, p. 233 THAT is proof that this is ANTI-VOIDLIGHT. It is solidly established elsewhere in this book that regular voidlight has that purple on black impossible color. However, this particular sphere has that color and another impossibility. A warping of the air around it. A definitive effect of anti-investiture spheres. Gavilar somehow had an anti-voidlight sphere almost a decade before it was discovered by Navani. I'm fairly certain that Vasher made that anti-light but why??? Why would Vasher mess around with investiture like that? The whole time we have known him (from Warbreaker as Vasher to Stormlight Archive as Zahel) this man has wanted to end conflict and stay as far away from fighting as he possible can. Why in the gods-forsaken Cosmere would he take the time to develop anti-investiture?
MrHobbes343 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Vasher may have been made aware by Gavalar and his robed weirdos about the dangers of Odium and his binding and potential escape. Even is he wasn't going to mass produce the Anti-Light, I can see why being able to render servants of this possible enemy into oblivion could be useful? Or unknown to us, Gavalar may have been a more skilled artifabrian then we are aware of with the handful of prologues and the hazy recollection of the family he lied to for years. Pralla or Battar might be able to figure it out as well and both might be convinced to do it with the right prodding.

Nightblood acts very similar to anti investiture and we know Vasher helped make nightblood so its likely he probably already knew how and could have done it intentionally to counteract the voidbringers. It's possible he knows the humans on Roshar are losing the war and wanted to develop something to help them out to prevent a total wipeout of humanity.
