I'm running a Cosmere RPG campaign and I initiated a sidequest in which they learn that there has been a series of documented simple thievery occurring in the city, all witnesses report the same calling card - the item taken from one person is found replacing the newest taken item elsewhere, but report a different thief every time.

What are your favorite "Wayne explanations" as to why he took some specific item or left another one?

Any alternative suggestions of what a Wayne-character might do on Roshar?

I mean, you could always look at what Wayne is inspired by/has: kleptomania (if you scroll down to popular culture, Wayne is actually on this page)

A possibly relevant quote is this: (what I could find at the time)

Quote

“Hope old Dumad is doing all right,” she said, nodding at her companion. “I done stole some of his metal vials without telling him.” “I don’t steal,” Wayne muttered. “Sorry! I borrowed it.” “I don’t borrow neither! And your accent is sliding from Roughs street into southern Elendel street gang! Gah! You’re gettin’ it all wrong!”

Wayne's stealing seems compulsive, but his explanations (and even bothering to give an explanation) vary a lot. He usually describes his thefts as borrowing or as swapping. When he swaps, he tends to suggest specific details of the things he "gives", to suggest that they are even trades. I remember him once stealing something and leaving a rat tail in exchange, and saying that the rat tail was the longest one he'd seen (suggesting it was valuable).

Focusing on specific, likely-irrelevant physical traits of things he exchanges might be a good angle for getting very Wayne-like commentary around these events.
