So there's this article: Mutant Wolves of Chernobyl Evolve to Survive Cancer

And cancer sucks so naturally scientists are looking to how this can help humans. But the line,

  • "The biologists are working with other cancer experts to see if these particular mutations could have therapeutic uses for humans."

immediately made my brain say, "No one expected the werewolf apocalypse.  We cured cancer....but we created carnivores."

And so now I need a movie where instead of zombies, it's werewolves.

Scientifically speaking, the phenomenon is not unprecedented. Radiation increases chances of mutation. While in most cases the subject (wolves) became ill and die, given enough time, one extraordinary genetic tweak will emerge - if the environment is not lethal enough to wipe out the population. The wolves that got this mutation also are more likely to survive and thrive, thus an evolutionary advantage.

To be realistic, I'm pretty sure cancer-averse genes and cognitive functions are largely unrelated. Side effects, maybe a bit. I know what you're devising, but has the mutation to bio-apocalypse trope been overdone?
