Mercyrose spends couple seconds inspecting Sarel. “You pass the soul read. Welcome aboard.”

She stops and stared into the Watcher’s eyes, initiating a staredown. “You don’t pass the soul read.” She waves a hand at Sarel. “She knows what I’m talking about.”

Does mercyrose attune any rhythms?

"Is that some cool- er, professionally amazing new ability? Can you tell me about it?"

Mercyrose turns up her head, adopting a haughty expression. “You ain’t in the know,” she says, simply.

She can, but she isn’t, as of this moment. I’ll include it in text when she does.

Neat.

I wonder if Sarel would attuned rhythms. She can hear them, but attune them?

"Um... is that some saying or phrase I don't know?" She looked ready to write the meaning down.

Mercyrose fails to suppress a snicker, which eventually turns into a laugh of an odd cadence, almost a rhythm. “Alright,” she says. “That’s enough of you guys for me.” She pats Longinus’ back, and he resumes his walk, crushing shrubs and plant life on his way. “You can come with if you want, question-woman, but if you ask any more I’ll get Longinus to eat you.”

Probably as a conscious effort type thing. Maybe needing a little bit of extra energy to bridge the gap of being human (I assume.) or not, and being a Bard makes you cool like that. Anything’s good, I think.

"Well, no offense, but I doubt that's what would happen! Besides, what is a "long-in-us", anyways? Is is Scadrian? Or from some other country? Garat-Shu said that there's a high chance there's some other plot of land across the map of Scadrial, is it from there? What do you feed it? How old can it get? How long have you had it for?"

Sarel turns her head, and says, to the Rhythm of  Confusion "please don't eat anyone."

"Oh no, don't worry, um... what's your name?" She turned towards the her. "Um, anyways... I don't think i really can be eaten! I mean, I would be disgusted if he tried and you all probably would too, but like, I know I'd be fine!"

"Sarel. That thing is clearly aura draining so I wouldn't be sure."

“Darn,” Mercyrose grumbles. “That usually works.”

"No, like, you literally couldn't. According to Thurt-Kor's study on... oh, you don't wanna hear about that, do you?"

"Aura? I don't think I have an "aura", do I?" She jotted down some notes. "No, my body is just... no, it would disturb you. Let's just leave it at 'it wouldn't work', alright?"

"I'm sure you do."

She hums under her breath.

"Three, actually."

"Wait... if you see an "aura"... mind explaining the "aura" system to me?" She seemed exited again, bracing her writing utensil for, well, writing.

"It's not just see- I hear them, the echo of life. Some people have bigger auras, their songs are stronger. You have three. Yours and.... two others."

"Echo of life? Oh. Oh. That's... gruesome for me but amazing for research!" She jotted down more notes, putting her notebook against a nearby rock. You can make out the words aura and spike but nothing else. Her rough-draft handwriting seems very hard to read.

True. But my character doesn't know about their investiture-eating abilties (yet), so for now they believe they'll be safe.

What you experienced was him having too much investiture and you blacking out instead of him stealing yours.

I was referring to the Lancer, not the watcher.

Why did the shard having a ton of investiture knock her out lol

Too much investiture shouldn't do that- some sort of corrupted investiture maybe.

Spoiler

Don’t worry—Mercyrose is lying again. The ‘soul read’ is just her looking real hard at a person and making a judgement. She doesn’t trust the Watcher, y’see.
