A plate of "food" slid through an opening in the door. It was the same as always. It looked like a puddle of oatmeal and tasted like cardboard.

"Good."

Erick was attached to a machine by the scientist he'd known the longest. There was no warmth to her. She stuck his hands each on motors.

Erick did what he was supposed to, he tried powering the machine. Erick only produced a few spark barely powering.

Nothing happened except silence. Torturous, mind numbing silence.

They would have to release their breath soon.

"Calm down? CALM DOWN? I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!!! WHAT IS X-778?! WHO ARE YOU? WHERE AM I?!?!?!"

The scientist sighed. "You are X-778."

They brought in a platypus.

Vtras sighed. "Already?" She re-molded her skin into the platypus's shape. And so she sat, waiting for permission to leave. Maybe if she saw an ant, she could escape. Or re-turn into a bird and fit through the ventilation system.

They couldn’t. There was only one option.

She tried to say "Very good what?" but found she couldn't. Apparently a platypus's mouth was not fit for human words. So, she again re-unturned from her platypus state and groaned. "Very good what?"
