okay best reading order (For Cosmere) (But not what I did):

Spoiler

Section 1:[

Chronological Order (when he published)

Chronological Order (when he published) another time

Then look through all books/short stories and find the Canon Chronological Order (When they happened through time in canon)]

Section 2:[

Canon Chronological Order

Canon Chronological Order (again)

Then Unpublished Works (In published Chronological Order)

Then Unpublished Works (In published Chronological Order) again]

Section 3:[

Then repeat section 2 until you have memorized every book.]

That way you learn all the lore and possible lore!

When a new book comes out:

Section 4:[

Read the new book

Read the new book again

Figure out where it is in Canon Chronological Order

Read the Canon Chronological Order (With new book)

Read the Canon Chronological Order (With new book) over and over again until you have memorized the new book.]

Congrats! You now have all the lore... Again!

:) (trust it'll only take a few centuries)

Hey welcome to the Shard! What's your favorite Cosmere magic systems?

tough decision for me between scadrian and rosharan. both have so much untapped potential. [major mistborn era 2 and general cosmere spoiler upcoming. fair warning]

Spoiler

especially in the combining of powers. which inevitably leads me to vote  scadrian because of hemalurgy. The potential change coming to harmony following their brush with autonomy may increase natural feruchemists and allomancers in the population. plus they are clearly headed for ftl travel meaning they could adapt other forms of investiture form other worlds, huge potential for becoming the most powerful system in the cosmere. meanwhile roshar is the coolest, but limited in terms of the number of nahel bonds a person can make.

this is by far the most labor intensive reading order i have ever encountered. Ill get right on it, lol😅

that being said, could you share withe me the list of all his cosmere related books in canon chronological order? that would help me a lot, i think, to understand where events on different worlds fit into the overall story.

hey, that is pretty close to mine in a lot of ways. I keep hearing mixed reports on white sands. I am interested to learn more about khriss, and I'm curious how a sando graphic novel will be, but i am trying to save up for the $70 omnibus, so i must wait for now. do you mean that it doesn't matter as in the order it is read, or as in it doesn't matter if you read it?

You can slot it in anywhere between any book on my list, but you have to read them in order.

hmmm, least favorite character is a hard one. Brandon does such a good job of making even the villainous characters respectable and relatable. so i will give two answers. one will be who i despise in world, the one i love to hate and can still somewhat understand and this may be spoiler-y for the uninitiates, so its

Spoiler

Moash

my next answer will be the character that i found the most unlikeable or unrelatable, the one who is hardest to read about, (and this by no means makes him a bad character, just the least interesting to me) is

Spoiler

Hrathen and/or Dilaf, their POV's are hard to get through for me.

Oh interesting!

Spoiler

I actually wasn't a fan of Hrathen either! I think we're in the minority on that, I find it odd that a lot of people say he's their fav character. I wish Brandon had developed him more.

The entire point is that you make the canon one yourself. That way you engage your mind to figure it out.

well, if that is the case, then i might have to do a full re-read through every book, because my ability to engage to that level is nonexistent

IKR!?

Spoiler

I think it may be my upbringing because I was consistently exposed to people with the religious fervor of Dilaf, as well as those who believed only on the surface to manipulate people to their goals similar to Hrathen. so a part of listening to their POVs is disturbing, because its real to me, and another part is boring because of the drudgery involved in the execution of his duties and his plan.

i should have guessed this, but apparently I am the most recent in a long, long line of people to have attempted to find a canonical reading order. If anyone finds this and is similarly curious, see this helpful post for more info

I could send it if you’d like. There is a definite order his books come timeline wise although you don’t need it to enjoy reading the Cosmere. If you’d like I can send it though

(I only just saw after posting this that you found the answer before me lol)

That is true I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of insane things the Rosharans build in the future I know it’s supposed to be completely different from the more Earthlike things Scadrial’s gonna build. It IS theoretically possible to be in multiple Orders and have multiple Nahel bonds at the same time too

woah, a windrunner/lightweaver/edgedancer would go so hard. same with a skybreaker/elsecaller/edgedancer or any combination really. good to know, ill be on the lookout for unkillable radiants with wwwwaaaaayyyyy too many powers in the next 5

It's very rare since the spren don't like it and it would have to be two orders where their ideals don't contradict one another (like you couldn't have a Skybreaker/Willshaper). Plus that might be to overpowered to include in an actual book but Brandon has confirmed in universe it is possible

ahh that makes sense. I get why too. Hard to swear yourself to opposing ideals....just ask moash. although after doing some reading on this topic here, I realized that we have technically already seen this. Since Shallan now has a bond with a Seon and Pattern at the same time.

I think Shallan has the most bonds of everyone since she’s also technically bonded to Testament as well as Pattern at the same time
