It was silent, in the square. Life was… well, it wasn’t plentiful.

Nor was any movement, for that matter.

A small child scampered across the square, looking behind themselves worriedly. Seeing something in the shadows, they widened their eyes and took off, sprinting - careless of direction. Well… not careless. Just… anywhere but the shadow. The horrible, death bringing, shadow.

The urchin ran into an adult, and apologized quickly as they ran around the adult, finding their hiding spot and descending into the tunnels.

The adult didn’t say anything.

In fact, the adult didn’t do anything at all.

The adult did not even blink.

I really wonder what these do. It was never explained to me by either of those cults.

I’ve had to make some plot changes

so the rock you don’t know the function of (I can tell you the function of the other if you don’t remember) does something different.

One of them began to feel very cold, and the world seemed to slow, just slightly, down, around them.

Suddenly, the ground shook more, a massive earthquake over taking them. Near the two, a section of the roof fell in, and they could see, from their tunnel, fire and ice overtaking the land.
