RoyalBeeMage he/him Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 how could life exsist on the dark side of a tidal locked planet? asume that there is enough sunlight for everything to barely survive and there was singnifiant amounts of geothermal activity... what kinds of adaptations might be expected... if you need more information please feel free to ask.
Through the Living Heir he/him Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 Interesting… If there’s enough geothermal activity, your ecosystem could work like those around hydrothermal vents. Alternatively, heat from the light side could be conducted to the dark side, which would cause pretty significant storms but also potentially get the producers enough heat for chemosynthesis. Do you have any other worldbuilding fleshed out yet? Should things also live on the light side?

That could be worked into this. the light side reaches temps of up to 40-60 degrees celcius again depending on things like the weather and time of year... there are things living on the lightside however thorough properganda spread by the gods of darkness (which are the good guys in my series) anything that tries to enter the darkside by passing through the small band of more european climate land will be hunted down and burned at the stake as people belive it to be a daemon... more information about the night side It is permanently nighttime. The entire world is stuck in a state of eternal twilight. There has never been a sun. tis fine. Most plants evolved biolumineces and photosynsisize via the moons especially the green moon which when rises all the plants start to bloom and turn towards. Many animals also evolved to use bioluminecece to ward off predators or to attract prey. Humans have stripes and markings across their body which is unique for each person that light up and change colour to indicate emotion. Greenhouses near geothermal vents sustain bioluminescent crops. Heated water vapor enriches plant growth. however plants can thrive in small clusters around natural geothermal vents though they are unable to travel far from the heat. Bathhouses serve as centers for relaxation, socialization, and even political discussions i also have some basic ideas for a magic system and only 3 fleshed out gods...
Through the Living Heir he/him Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 A couple science things you can ignore for the sake of the story if you want: the middle band of a tidally locked planet contains permanent storms because one side is effectively a massive warm front, and the other a massive cold front. Maybe they’re not too bad, or the inhabitants have ways to deal with it. Also, if you want the plants on the dark side to be green, a green light is one of the only kinds of light they cannot photosynthesize from. But again, you can handwave, or make the plants a different color. I like the use of bioluminescence, as deep sea environments are a pretty good analogue for the dark side..
