As it's already occupied she managed to get out of range.

The knife goes in, but not very far. The mimic lets out another screech and takes it's now free pincer (the one that had just hit Lusha), and attempts to grab Dint to throw him off.

(The other pincer is on heartache for those who've forgotten)

@Ookla the Interdimensional @Ookla the Inquisitive

Dint twisted away, but the pincer still got him. He grunted in pain as the very ends of the claw clamped down onto his stomach, and he he stabs his other knife into this pincer, weaker this time.

After being hit by a sudden claw to the face, Heartache tries to strike it with dragonfire...

... she ends up also spewing blood.

"o-oh. That is... That's... URK."

She doesn't handle losing blood very well. while it would take draining all of her blood to kill her, it still isn't good for her.

It's drafty, inside. A small cot sits on one end, the rest of the stuff Nera hadn't finished unloading sat on the other, in crates.

Master Igenes's cot is tipped over, the blankets torn. His bag is tipped over and his personal items are all over the floor. It's impossible to tell if the mimic did this or if it happened before.

The pincers loosen as he stabs them, and the mimic screeches again--this time low and guttural.

It let go of Dint and lumbered backwards.

The blood has little effect unfortunately, man-eating mimics aren't very squeamish.

Dint gasps, and grunts as his stomach hurts him. “Fire. We need fire; that would expose it.”

"That would be a fantastic idea if we had a way of doing that," Nera grumbled, she was now searching through the brush trying to find her crossbow that she'd thrown aside.

That wasn't ideal.

Chances were with it being trashed like this, something had definitely happened to Igenes. Maybe that mimic.

Fire don’t fit with my character’s theme. There are other things that do fit, but… I don’t have em and shouldn’t have em.

Dint nodded, and then thought. “If someone could get behind it, they could hold the lid open.”

Lusha just has her vines and she's too exhausted for much with them right now

The luggage was also strewn about, almost definitely by the mimic. One of the crates had opened and golden coins were falling out--something about them looked wrong, though, but it might have just been the moonlight.

Nera found her crossbow, pulling it out of the grass.

"Or . . . the back of it is flat, we could push it onto it's back and it might have a hard time moving?"

Nera mentioned something about a trap... Is that what summoned the mimic? Fake coins in a chest? She decided not to touch them.

Dint nodded. “That would work.”

He grunts, and looks at the party. “We may be able to trip it to that effect using some rope.”

So was her guess accurate?

She pulled herself slightly forward so she could see the fight. Her arrows did nothing when she shot, and her vines all slid off of it.

She groaned and lifted the side of her top. There was already a bruise forming, and she could tell it was going to be a nasty one.

“No.” He steps towards the Mimic, clutching his side gingerly. As it met him, he shoved a shoulder against it, giving a cry as his wound protested flagrantly.

What Nera meant about a trap was that they had brought an actual mimic as part of the treasure hoard so that bandits would fall for it.

Which side is he shoving against? The front with the lid and claws, or one of the sides, or the back?

Ah

She heard them talking about rope. It would expend all of her energy, but maybe she could...

A vine about the same thickness as a rope, with very small thorns on it except for part that could be used as a handle, emerged at Nera's feet.

The mimic tips back and it's back service slams into the ground with a loud thump. The mimic shrieks again, it's legs and pincers wave in the air as it tries to right itself, but none are quite long enough to touch the ground.

Nera grabs the rope.

"Should we try to tie it down while it's immobile?"

After summoning the vine, her limbs and head hit the ground. She lessened the impact as much as she could, and she was barely able to stay conscious.
