The arrow flies, and hits one of them, but it get's him in the arm and isn't lethal.

This man let's out a loud squal of pain as the sword slashed up into him. Halfheartedly he swings his sword. There's very little power behind it, but the blade is sharp, and it grazes Alvar's arm.

The bandit dodges at the last minute, and the knife sinks into his leather pauldron. He grabs Eublech's wrist with a gloved hand and rips the knife out, throwing Eublech onto the ground in one motion. In seconds another bandit was on top of him, pinning him down.

Nera ran through the trees, circling around the camp. She had two bandits on her tail and both of them were gaining on her. Short legs weren't her ally in this situation.

A vine over her eyes moved to let her see the people at the base of the tree.

Mami was still there. Three of the other bandits were focused on holding down Eublech nearby. Nera was nowhere in sight. The archer was standing at the ready, a new arrow in hand. No one noticed her peaking.

The man who had been directing things from by the fire pit came over to Mami, looking up at the mass of vines in the tree.

"What's all this? I thought things were going smoothly . . ."

"They were," Mami grumbled, "But then some of the campers woke up, an elf girl went up that tree and is shielding herself with magic--she's a surprisingly good shot with her bow. There are others, but we're taking care of them."

The man nodded. He was also wearing a mask; it was painted a bright red, unlike the others.

Her ear twitched. Was this her chance to get information?

"Well . . ." He said, clearly thinking, "She's not harming anyone up there is she? We'll just leave her be."

"She shot several of us! How is that harmless?"

"Yes but we attacked her when she was discovered, correct?"

Mami grumbled something inaudible.

The man moved closer to the tree.

"Hey there little elf girl . . . would you like to talk things out?" Now that he was speaking louder, she could hear that he had moderate accent.

The vine hovered just over her eyes, so she could see a little but they couldn't tell. "How do I know you won't attack when I'm not expecting it?"

He shrugged.

"You don't. However, I don't think you could stay up there forever, yeah? You don't have food and tree branches are uncomfortable. Let's just talk about things."

She thought for a moment. The branch wasn't that uncomfortable, and she could photosynthesize if she really needed to...

But just maybe she could keep that as her ace in the hole.

"Call them off, and then we'll talk."

"Who? They have stopped climbing your tree." He said gesturing at the other bandits.

The archer lowered his bow and the others backed away a bit. Mami folded her arms, clearly unhappy.

Eublech flinches as he is forced onto the floor. He can't move. Completely incapacitated, he begins muttering. He never learned magic, but he figured the bandit wouldn't know.

"See?" He said to her. "Just come down and we'll talk things out, on my honor."

"I think this ones a madman," The bandit on top of him called to Mami. "He's babbling something and it ain't magic."

Her eyes slightly narrowed, but the vines came undone. Rather than dropping to the ground, she went down a couple limbs in the tree, staying near the trunk.

"Jerehlu," He replied. "But that's not important."

Jerehlu gestured at the wagons on the other side of the clearing. "Why are you traveling with these folks, Lusha?"

"Why not get a job yourself?"

"Because I have a criminal record, so no one will hire me," He replied.
