A moment of appreciation

I wanted to take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this line from Shallan is:

“My way has its difficulties, but once in a while I see light that no one else seems to. Light reflecting off waves, breaking into sprays upon the ocean, making shapes appear for a heartbeat. The light reflecting in the eyes of someone I’m talking to, as if gleaming from their soul. In those moments, I know that what I am lets me see what others cannot. Those moments, I’m… if not grateful, then appreciative.”

 

When I first read it I had to slow down and admire how eloquently it frames one of the greatest secrets to happiness. Our life’s challenges serve to give us empathy and appreciation. Through that empathy we can change lives for the better.

Kudos to Sanderson for being such a fantastic author.
