"Well, like I said before, I wasn't taught much. But what I know about him..." She smiled warmly. "When I was first brought to the palace, I was terrified. I hated the soldiers for taking me from my home, and I avoided speaking to them out of fear, anger, and sadness. The first people I met from the imperial family were the emperor, December, February, and August. I ran out of the room and tried to hide as quickly as I could, and... August followed me. He tried to help me calm down. When I still wouldn't, he took me to a balcony he liked. When I started calming down, he promised me that he'd help me get home someday. But until then, he helped me write a letter to my parents since the soldiers didn't let me say goodbye. Ever since then, he's been a big brother to me."

BlueWildRye he/him Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 9 hours ago, Magi said: @BlueWildRye It did turn out to be a fairly short trip, despite how large the city was. The majority of traffic was on foot, so most people moved out of their way as they rode through. It was also early morning, before dawn, at this point and while the city never slept it was a little less crowded. The location turned out to be a somewhat shady looking tavern, will an almost caved in roof and mossy stone foundation. It sat on the edge of a city, facing the palace with it's back against a small hill. A few lights shone through the front windows, but the top looked dark and strange. Unlike most places this time of night it seemed mostly empty, and as August helped May down and tied down his horse, very little of the expected night-crowd noise could be heard. Quote Rye has been following glumly this entire time.
Mags she/they Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 20 hours ago, Spark of Hope said: "No." @Magi Quote nope twas just busy September tapped a finger on his chin. "It's a complicated thing . . . how do I summarize it . . . Over 10 years ago he lead a campaign from the south, cutting through all the way to the capitol. It was . . . bloody. At that time he used the name Jhacabre, a general of the emperor who ruled over the southlands. He wasn't really Jhacabre though--he was some exiled hero from one of the southern countries Jhacabre had been trying to invade. He ran a hand through his red hair and tilted his head, as if listening for other people on the street. It was deserted, but he still seemed particularly nervous about this part. "He stole his name, the way they do in their odd traditions there--but he didn't just steal the name. I read that August snuck into Jhacabre's household and murdered him. Then, August took his place and identity too. Like some kind of changeling. "It took 5 months for the empire to realize there was a new man under the name, but by then he'd crossed half of the lands between the south and Jouken, and he'd gotten the provinces there to side with him--fake or not. "From reports I heard though, his forces waned the further to the capital he got, and they were wiped out before they reached it. The emperor couldn't just kill him then, he had too many friends and it risked uproar in the southlands so he . . . y'know, made him a month. "But I hope you understand--how can I trust a man who steals faces?" September shook his head, "I don't even know what mine looks like, he might take it from me when I'm not paying attention." 17 hours ago, BlueWildRye said: Quote did your character go in the tavern? The front room was decently sized, with the typical bar to the right, fireplace straight ahead, and tables on the rest of the floor. June was sitting at one, leaning back with his eyes closed. July and August had stitched and freshly bandaged the stab in his side with supplies from a first aid kit that they'd emptied out on the floor. July was now fastening a makeshift splint on his broken arm. August had sat down, watching and offering advice but looking somewhat deflated. A woman in her late 40's stood behind the bar. He skin was a mid-tone brown, and she had an early full head of silver hair, tied back with a vibrant scarf. Despite the small wrinkles around her eyes, they were very wide and friendly looking. "What were you standing outside for? You'll catch a cold," She said warmly to April as they walked in. The room was otherwise empty aside from another women slumped down on a table in the back. She was blonde, and wore light leather armor, but her head was in her arms so you couldn't see her face or guess her age. She was snoring softly.
