Racist Elves?

I remember hearing on an old episode of Writing Excuses, that an author wrote a book or series about racist elves, in an attempt to twist stereotypes in the fantasy genre. But I can't remember the episode! Can anyone tell me the author and book/series? Or the podcast episode?

I'm not sure about a series, but the Magic: The Gathering novel for the Lorwyn set (titled Lorwyn or something like that) has a society of elves that hate anything they deem 'not pretty'.
