EHyde she/her Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I'm in the market for a new camera, and I thought I'd see if anyone here had any suggestions. I'm not really a photographer, and I'm not looking for anything fancy--basically just a small point-and-shoot that's under $200. My main considerations are--I want something with good macro focus, something that takes decent pics indoors, and something without too much of a delay between clicking the button and actually taking the picture. My main subjects will likely be costumes and cats. Thank you!
Shivertongue he/him Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I just bought a camera exactly like that, with those same things in mind. I bought a Nikon Coolpix S9100 from Best Buy for my Digital Photography class. It's a good little camera, and fits most if not all of what you have in mind. I think I paid about $185 for it, but I can't recall exactly.
gdanny Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I am not really sure how point and shoots stand at the current market and how they are likely to go in the next couple of year but I would likely invest in a better and more equipped camera just to be sure that it would cater to what I need. Most of the smartphones we have now are equipped with great camera features that almost render the regular point and shoots useless, quite frankly.
KChan she/her Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Yeah, except there's still a clear difference between a point-and-shoot camera and even the best cell phone pictures. Plus, getting pictures off your phone can be a hassle, and sometimes you just want a camera and not a phone. I got this little fella out of a Best Buy vending machine as I was leaving for the Alloy of Law release, and I couldn't be happier with it. Apparently it's no longer available, but you could find a comparable model from Canon, I'm sure. It's small - but not too small - lightweight, and takes great pictures. I love it!
Tamzin Ashevai she/her Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I've got the Canon PowerShot SD770 IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver). You can find it here on Amazon. It came with software, but I think it's now outdated with regard to new OS because my laptop doesn't recognize that a camera is connected to it when I plug it in via usb. Thus, I purchased a memory card reader so I can, once again, upload my pics from my digi-cam to my laptop (and iPad, with yet another reader). This reminds me that I have photos I've yet to upload!
