I'm currently re-reading the Mistborn books, and I just finished Well of Ascension and saw its Ars Arcanum. In that table there are only 12 metals and Atium and Malatium are switched for Cadmium and Bendalloy among the temporal metals and that got me thinking about their pattern:

Normally in each group of metal we have 2 pure(Pulling) metals, one internal and one external, and their 2 alloys(Pushing), again internal and external. But in that group the pattern is broken, Atium is a God metal and Malatium is from another set of 16.

My point is: if a skilled Seeker studied their allomantic pulses, what would he see? I figure that since Malatium is the equivalent of gold it should have the pulses of and internal Pulling metal, but I can't imagine what Atium's pulses would look like.

So, what do you think? Could a very skilled Seeker had noticed, via some very expensive experiments, have noticed the break in the pattern and saw that something was going on with the metallic arts? Do my musings actually have any reasons at this point of the series? Will I continue writing the word "pattern" and resist making a joke about lies? Who knows...

Interesting thoughts.

First, I think this falls into something that might have occasionally been noticed, but never widely disseminated. I think Vin mentions at one point, or maybe Kelsier does, that a lot of allomantic knowledge was probably discovered by a lone allomancer, who kept his advantage secret, and it died with him. Or her.

Second, remember that Gold and Atium were considered "High Metals". Even if people did notice something, there's a good chance they would have simply chalked it up to, "Well, the High metals just have different Pulses, the same way they're weird because they don't have Mistings."

About their Push-Pull... hrm. Malatium lets you see into someone's past... that sounds to me like Push, but I admit I'm basing that on nothing more scientific than "what sounds right to me," so basically it's a guess. As for atium, for the same reason I would guess it's a Pulling metal, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Atium and Lerasium simply broke the system and had Bronzepulses that had nothing in common with any of the other metals. Maybe they each just play a totally unique theme, and that theme becomes a leitmotif for all 16 of their own alloys.

Well since Gold is pulling and Electrum is pushing, I think on the scale of temporal metals it is safe to say that past = pull and future = push. With that in mind, Atium sees the future and is therefore a push, while Malatium sees the past and should therefore be a pull.
