Fatebreaker he/him Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 When one reads fantasy it is inevitable that one will read about weapons. Swords, daggers, battle axes, all kinds. Some of us choose to not just read about them, but procure said items. Are there any other weapon aficionados? If so what tools of pointyness do you of the 17th have? i'll star it off with a US civil war calvary sabre and a ton few hemalurgic railroad spikes. There's more, but let's make sure I'm not talking to myself. 2
Surgebound Rainspren he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 being armed with an collapsible fork would grant its user otherworldly power!
Quiver he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Stick them with the pointy end! ...I have nothing to contribute beyond rehashing quotes from Game of Thrones. I'm sorry. (Well okay, I guess I do have one or two things to mention. When I was growing up, I had a friend who made wooden swords and shield; I've fallen out of contact with them, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got himself an actual replica sword. Similarly, I knew someone who had at least one katana. Really though, swords, daggers and sharp things? Yikes. There is a fascination with them- a romantic side to the great swords like Excaliber or Aunduril- but it's like guns. I know that if I had one, a disaster would happen sooner or later.)
traceria she/her Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 As for me, the closest I come is a scalpel used for various craft projects. My husband has two katanas, though they live in a closet and aren't out for viewing.
Fatebreaker he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Ooh, katanas are cool. Have yet to get myself some, but I do own a pair of Chinese hook swords which make me happy. And, in the tradition of the greatest fantasy warriors, I have a frying pan. Bring it goblins. 4
BreathTaker he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I have a replica Templars sword, a small United cutlery Ronin "sword", a huge Damascus steel katana, a crappy aluminum katana that just looks pretty and was free. Those are my just for looks ones. My babies from biggest to smalles are my S.O.G. Jungle Primitive Bowie knife, my Wartech tactical combat knife, a Frost skinning knife and a K-Bar that looks just like the Frost but is WAY nicer and sharper. Plus my little Kershaw assisted open work knife. Aside from the swords, I have cut my self pretty decently with every one of my knives. I see it as a kind of right of acceptance from my knives. I play with them until I get careless and they remind me not to be. The SOG caught me at the base of my right pinky with its serrated edges and poked a pretty decent hole. My Wartech actually cut the same pinky all the way to the bone, I didn't get stitches, I ran out in to the living room and had my friend hold my finger together as I cleaned, super glued and wrapped it up. He almost passed out. The K-Bar is so freakishly sharp that it cut my left index finger but didn't bleed for almost a minute. The Kershaw cut the pad of my thumb almost to the bone, that bled for about 3 hours.
Fatebreaker he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 There we go, I knew I couldn't be the only one. Ooh, I want a damascus katana. Shinwa makes some nice ones. so pretty... I also have A full size Andurill replica(the sword that was reforged in LOTR) It's huge and beautiful. I have a nice pair of sai, The double shadow by gil hibben( with autographed box), shurikan, a nice s.o.g. folder, a hand and a half sword, a replica Master Sword form LoZ (all for looks) with it's over the shoulder sheath, a weird dragon fantasy double bladed thingy, a s.o.g. tactical tomahawk that makes for a great thrower, a s.o.g. leatherman, the timber rattler spiked bowie (which broke, so now I use it as a shank) a 6ft leather bullwhip (I know it's not a knife, but still), dual roman gladiuss with a back sheath, and a really old marine fighting knife. But the deadliest of all is my razor sharp wit.
BreathTaker he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I see you like SOGs. My dream right now is to get Either the Reaver Cleaver or the Rat Bastard from Zombie Tools.
Surgebound Rainspren he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I do own a knife which is made using the same method as Japanese samurai swords. it has 100 layers of steel and is the sharpest thing I possess. I also have a divers leg knife. 1
Fatebreaker he/him Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 That would be damascus steel. It is not only superbly strong and terrifically sharo, but it's so pretty... I like whatever I'm given, and several of those have been sogs. Right now I'm lookin' at the Aizu Ring Fighter by Honshu and the Shinwa Black Nodachi Dasmascus. Shinwa also came out with a damascus spear that is gorgeous.
Left he/him Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I used to be really good using sticks as swords. I could fight about three other kids same age and still kick their butts easy. Currently I have a bent plastic practice fencing sword, and wooden one handed sword that looks nice but isn't strong, and a buck bantam .285 pocket knife. The knife is pretty great and it's little bro .284 that I gave to my sister managed to stab itself halfway through my palm.
BreathTaker he/him Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Your own knife spiked you? How did that happen? Did you call it dull?
Left he/him Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 It was shipped in this nice small cardboard box and I thought I'd just see how good the edge was right out of the box, on...well... the box. So I start cutting it, and then suddenly it goes all the way through the bottom of the box in my left hand which was holding it. The blade was incredibly good, and the point very sharp. 1
