She jumped up and hugged him.

His form was cold and hard in her arms, the metal-like feel of Stacis crystal. "Haly? Are you okay? I think I must have lost some time..."

"What do you mean?"

She didn't even care, so long as he was kind of alive.

"I remember killing the Queen and getting hit myself like it was just a few seconds ago. And then I died, kind of... and now I'm alive, and you're here. There's been a gap."

"Oh. It hasn't been that long," she promised. "Maybe an hour or two."

"You thought that I was dead? Maybe I was, for that time. How did you find me?"

She shrugged. "The connection didn't completely go away."

"Are you alright?"

"Y--" She coughed, then hacked. "I'm fine," she croaked.

"No, you're not. What happened?" He looked to Lerac, seeming afraid, though his expression wasn't very distinct in this form. "Can you help her?"

"I'm fine. I just wanted to bring you back. Don't worry... this is normal."

TAAron met her eyes with his own, which still looked like those of a strange statue. He spoke softly, with a distinct note of worry. "Tell me what's going on. Please."

Lerac approached. "I believe she used a sort of... dark magic."

TAAron looked to him, then back to her.

She looked away. "It didn't work."

"You... why? Did you hurt yourself? Are you sick?" He held her slightly apart from him so he could look her over.

"I'm fine. I'm not sick."

"Then what's going on? Why are you coughing?"

"It doesn't matter. Can you become a human again? Are you able to?"

"It does matter. I need to know that you're okay." His voice strained, sounding pained and afraid.

"I'm fine, TAAron. I promise. Can you? Become a person instead of crystal?"

He hesitated, as though concentrating on something. Then the hard, monochromatic crystal changed, shifting to soft, normal skin, hair, and clothing. In seconds, he looked completely himself. One thing, though, was different. Instead of being surrounded by wisps of golden light, which had vanished from the room, now his very body seemed permeated with the glow.

She beamed and hugged him anyway.
