Rex's breath hitched in her lungs. She couldn't do this. She had to LEAVE-

Daniel’s mom ran to him. “Did you do this?” she asked him accusingly.

She was hyperventilating-

Daniel looked up, looked at his angry mother, then looked at the. He ran over to her, throwing an arm around her. “I’m here.”

She was breathing, but it was too quickly, and it was through her mouth.

Fine. She continued, working to calm herself from the outside in, carefully hiding her emotions so that she appeared calm. Rex's breathing returned to normal.
