"Well I'm afraid I will have to send him away if he cannot complete the test."

“Send him away then.” She looked towards Tayen.

Tayen shook his head vehemently as Carab picked up the gemstone, which had fallen from Helda's hand.

Don’t do it. Please. I can’t stand to see you in that much pain.

I'm not leaving you. It'll be alright, I promise.

No it won’t. I won’t let him do this to you.

Then we can both go.

Carab piped in. "I'm afraid that won't be happening either."

“What do you mean by that?”

"You will stay here to complete more tests. He may stay or go, but if he stays he must complete the tests as well."

“Why can I not leave?”

"You will not," he said simply.

It's okay. I can do it.

"I think you'd rather not find out..."

Tayen reached out for the gemstone.

Please Tayen, don’t. “I think you’d rather let us go.”

Helda felt a hint of pain spread through her. It wasn't much more than an annoyance, but it was reminiscent of what she had just experienced.

Carab placed the gemstone into Tayen's hand. As with Helda, nothing immediately happened.

Helda waited.

Still nothing happened, until eventually it had taken longer than it had for Helda.

Carab looked downright giddy with excitement.

“Can we go now?”
