The glow, upon closer look, was a person, radiant in white light, struggling to swim to the surface.

They had emerald green eyes.

It was hard to tell who the figure was in the dark water. But those eyes, they reminded Mike of someone. He couldn't quite remember who.

He willed himself closer, and reached his hand into the water. It seemed the person needed help.

The water was cold, painfully so. The person's eyes went wide, and they reached and grabbed his hand, pulling themself above the water. Their hand, in spite of the water, was warm. They met his eyes, face distinct in the illumination. They were... quite stunning, in a way that was difficult to describe.

"Mike! How-" Their speech was cut off as a massive wave hit the two, ripping their hands apart and plunging them both into the depths. This time, the person was not struggling to reemerge. They seemed to have been knocked unconscious.

They know me...?

Mike was knocked into the frigid water. He almost wished it was colder, because then his body would heal it all away. He tried to swim towards the figure, then remembered he could just will himself towards them.

He grabbed them and willed himself to the surface of the ocean. When they resurfaced he let out a long held breath.

He doesn't actually need to breath, but whatever.

They seemed to be alive, but still unconscious.

When underwater, Mike had seen something strange further down. A brilliant point of light. A sun. Like this ocean had two surfaces, somehow, one above and one beneath. Or were they beneath?

It's subconscious. He technically doesn't need to breath irl either cuz he would just heal from it but he still does.

He looked at the figure for a moment. They were gorgeous. "Sorry, looks like we may have to take another dive."

Mike takes in a deep breath and wills himself back into the ocean, towards the light.

He emerged with them on the other side. They were floating upon another surface, but the sky was blue and there was a bright sun overhead. The air was warm, the waves calm and gentle. The glowing person came to, eyes opening. "What... oh, no."

"Hel- what?"

They looked up at the sun. It seemed... like it was growing.

"Mike... I'm sorry." Tears began streaming down their face.

He eyed the sun, not sure what to do.

"Sorry for what?"

"I wasn't strong enough. To hold on." The air seemed to crackle with hot energy.

"What do you mean? Do I know you?"

They looked confused. "Mike? I'm... Erin."

Mike suddenly remembered who he was and what had been happening. But most importantly, he remembered who he was holding.

"Erin? How are you alive?" He hesitated, "Or am I dead?"

"I don't think either of those things are true." The sun had grown to consume the sky. The heat and light quickly became overwhelming.

"Then what? And do you know if that'll stop growing?" He said, nodding towards the sun.

"I..." Their voice cracked. "Goodbye, Mike. I love you." Heat and fire consumed them.

Mike woke up.

Mike woke up in a cold sweat.

He sits up immediately and looks over at Erin, fear starting to take over his mind.

"No..."

Erin still lay there, motionless and empty. Tears ran down their face.

They hugged him back. But, oddly, their expression remained empty, and they did not speak.

Mike froze. He had not expected them to move.

"Can you...hear me?"

The hint here is that there is still just barely a connection between Erin and the body.

Perhaps something that can be healed.

There was no response.

Mike's in a kinda shock rn, it'll take him a bit to try that.

"Shades. What is happening to me?"

He sat there for a few minutes, just thinking.
