A quizzical look crossed Mike's face as he looked Erin in the eyes. "...What?"

They turned to look at him. Their eyes were cold as ice. "I don't love you, Mike." They broke into heartless laughter. "What a fool I was." They pulled away from him and walked back into the forest.

Oh that's cruel xD

Mike stood frozen for a moment before racing over to Erin and grabbing her hand. "What?"

They jerked their hand away. "Don't touch me." The space in front of them compressed, and they were suddenly at the canyon again. Erin stood at the edge, looking down.

"Erin, what are you doing?" Mike's voice was more than concerned. He stepped on between them and the edge.

"Oh, Mike. You really thought I loved you? That quickly, that easily?" They laughed again. It was cold and soulless.

Mike felt like a dagger had been pierced into his heart.

Something is wrong. Something is...off.

"What changed, Erin?"

"We had fun, didn't we?" Then without warning, they pushed him into the canyon, and followed, plummeting into the depths.

I assume you're okay with this, since Mike can survive the fall. Erin, however...

Mike's instinct took over and he grabbed Erin. He wrapped his arms around them and began to gather magical energy within them to heal upon impact.

What the Shades is happening?

They fell for what felt like a minute before nearing the bottom of the canyon. It probably wasn't that long.

Erin ripped themself out of his arms, and kicked him away midair, isolating them. As Mike hit the ground, though, Erin disappeared.

Mike cried out in shock as Erin disappeared.

What a stupid way to die.

Mike hit the ground and bones crushed in his body. Pain like he hadn't felt in years. It took an agonizing minute to heal completely; a minute where he wished he was dead.

He lay there, his nerves still telling him his bones had been mashed into paste. The overload in his brain hurts almost more than the impact.

Finally, Mike is able to breathe and a groan escapes from his lips.

"Mike! You're alive." Erin's voice spoke from the other place once more. "I don't know what happened, I was just falling, and I managed to shift away, but..." Their voice trailed off into and eerie silence.

"Erin? Are you okay?" Mike groans again as the bones finish shifting in his body.

"I... can't seem to move in this space for some reason. So when I come back to where you are... I might just keep falling."

"How high up are you?"

"Not very... but I'm worried I'll retain my momentum." The voice wavered.

Mike stood up, slightly unsteady on his feet. "If I can touch you before you hit the ground, I'll be able to keep you healed."

"Ok, I-" Erin cried out, and their body appeared a few yards above the ground, and slammed downwards with all the force of the fall. There was a sickening crunch, and blood splattered as Mike saw what had happened to him happen to them. Except they didn't heal.

Mike cried out in shock.

"No!" He rushed over to Erin's broken body.

"No no no no no"

Tears began to rush down his face.

"No, Shades, no, no, no, no."

It was fairly obvious that they were dead.

Mike broke down into a mumbling mess, obviously in shock.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no..."

Then, somehow, they were alive. It shouldn't have been possible, considering the state of their body, but they began to breath agonizing, ragged breaths.

Mike started, then immediately reached out and touched them. He willed as much magical energy as he could find to heal Erin as quickly as possible.

"Oh shades oh shades oh shades"

Erin healed, a bit too slowly for comfort but completely. They sat up and smiled. Their eyes were cold. "Thanks for the help."
