"I should be dead," she whispered.

"Why?" His face grew concerned, in more of a loving way than a worried way.

"I wanted to be. So I wouldn't be a burden. Why didn't you let me?" Tears sprang to her eyes.

"I couldn't lose another person I love, not again. I tried so very hard to help you see what an amazing person you were, and the even greater person you could be. To fail you in this would be the greatest loss that I could never bear." His voiced cracked, rich with emotion, "You were never and could never be a burden. You could make my day by walking into the room. I could never see you as a burden, and I could never let you die without a fight."

Vena turned away. "I'll hurt you. I've already hurt you. I'm better off dead." She began to break down into sobbing.

He hugged her, wrapping his arms around her while she cried. After a few minutes he said, "I felt the same way, once. After my parents died and my brother left. I felt that no one really cared whether I was alive or not, and it would be a convenience for them if I died. It would improve their lives, to see me gone. I felt that way for a long time, a sickeningly long time. I didn't really feel differently until... I met you." He pulled away, looking her in the eyes. "I saw your face, the purity and the innocence in your eyes, crying on the train that day, and knew that right there was someone worth living for."

Her gray eyes shimmered with tears. "The... the water was so cold."

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." He pulled her head into his chest, kissing her forehead. "I'm so glad you survived." He choked out, on the verge of sobbing himself

"Don't be sorry. It's my fault." She held on to him tightly. "And... thank you. For caring."

They sat there for several minutes, then Rallohir pulled away. "We should probably get going, I don't who actually lives here, we were extremely lucky they aren't home."

"Okay." Vena stood up slowly, clearly still exhausted. She looked overall worse for wear, her hair a mess and her dress worn and torn in some places. She began walking out of the cabin ahead of him, but stopped and cringed momentarily at the cold air outside.

He pulled off his robe and draped it over her shoulders, wrapping her in the thick fabric. "You'll want to hold on for this next part." He searched the Void and found ten of his knives had returned. He let five drop out of the robe's pocket, forming the familiar wheel he used for fast transportation. He used one to shoot himself into the sky, and after a few moments spotted smoke a ways off. He dropped down next to Vena, "Hold on tight." He wrapped his arms around her, and they were off, flying through the air at breakneck speed. They whizzed past trees and snow, ice and rock, until the familiar shape of the inn came into view. He set her down, and opened the door for her. "Glad I got the right building this time."

Vena didn't seem at all bothered by the flight. "Thanks," she said quietly. She re-entered the inn and began searching out Lilyana and the others.

They've spent a night at an inn, Eddie got her powers back and also went comatose again, Vena ran off and tried to drown herself, and she just got back with Rallohir, who saved her.

Vena did not walk with him, but instead ahead of him with her arms wrapped around herself, shivering.

The Inn

Mike wakes up from his rest, unsure where he is for moment.

Not in the Inn

Exp follows in the shadows. He feels no need to say anything more at the moment as his allies didn't seem very inclined to return the favor.

"So now you want to talk, huh?" The shadows darken again. Exp has full control over the shadows nearest him.
