Hello all, I am Nolan, and I'm excited to join the forum!

I am trying to decide which book to read next. I was introduced to Brandon with Wheel of Time, then read Way of Kings, Warbreaker, and Elantris. I am really eager to start Words of Radiance, but I did feel like there were some Cosmere references I would have better understood in Way of Kings having read more of the Cosmere first. At least there were some things that seemed like they should have hit harder, but there was some context missing. (Don't want to say too much to avoid spoilers)

Which book should I read next? Some or all of Mistborns Era 1, or Words of Radiance? I am sure there are parts that hit better or worse with either reading order, but I dont know if there is a generally considered "best" place to go from where I have been so far.

Thanks,

- Nolan

Personally, I would go forward with the Stormlight Archives. Starting another series won't necessarily give you more information, and I think that Stormlight is a good starting point to build your knowledge of the Cosmere.

Thanks for the recommendations, sounds like the consensus is to go on to WoR!

I have loved reading Brandons works so far. Even with Wheel of Time it felt like his words jump off the page in an epic way. I look forward to making my way through his works, and engaging in the community. That's something I feel like I missed in wheel of time. Since the series was finished I didn't feel like I could engage in the community until I finished the series. Since Brandon's works are unfinished, it should be really fun to theorize about what each new step will bring.

If you intend on becoming a fully-fledged Cosmerenaut, and want maximum "reveal punch" (I feel like that is a compound word in German), the answer is to read the works in published order.

You already read TWoK and Warbreaker before Mistborn (out of published order), but I'll say that doesn't really lose you anything, as those works don't really have any significant cross-Cosmere "Easter eggs" or references (other than That One Guy).

But, I'd say yes, read Mistborn "Era 1" ASAP. You can certainly finish reading WoR if you've begun it though (still probably my favorite book so far in Stormlight Archives).

I would definitely recommend you reading the stormlight archive and then probably going on and reading the first era of the mistborn series
