Nitpicking Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 So ... I added Ishar to the list of canonical [[Bondsmiths]]. My edit was reverted with no explanation. Rather than edit war, I figured I'd ask why on the talk page ... which is deleted. And the page says, "The deletion and move log for this page are provided here for convenience:" Then there's nothing after the colon. Can anyone perhaps tell me why my edit was reverted by @Reinhartmax? And why the talk page was deleted? And why the deletion log is invisible to the wiki's own code? Thanks. 2
Argenti he/him Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 I looked at the other knight's pages, and none of the heralds are included (except Nale, but he's special). Ishar might count as in the order (depending on what a Bondsmith is), but it seems our definition does not include heralds, only those bonded to proper spren. 1
Nitpicking Posted March 29, 2023 Author Posted March 29, 2023 I figured out (I think) what happened after posting. I thought the article was about Bondsmiths. It isn't. It's about "The Order of the Bondsmiths". There is no article about people who are Bondsmiths, that is, have the Surgebinding abilities associated with Bondsmiths. I actually don't disagree with reverting my change, now that I figured that out. I do wish @Reinhartmax had just said that as a reason for the reversion, so I wasn't confused. I am also still curious about why the talk page was deleted. Would it have been a problem to recreate it?
Chaos he/him Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 So I've talked with Keepers. I think Ishar being on that list--maybe with a footnote explaining he had Bondsmith abilities prior to being a Herald--works well. The page talks about ancient Bondsmiths after all, so this applies. Typically, indeed, we wouldn't put each Herald on their Order page (except Nale of course) even though inspired them, of course, but Ishar is certainly a valid edge case. It's tricky to truly separate Order of Bondsmiths from Bondsmiths, especially because we know so little about what those Ashynite Bondsmiths were like. Maybe eventually. But at the same time, these are very related things. The Rosharan magics pages are so hard to organize... Sorry about the revert from that user! I do wish people would use edit summaries to have some explanation, because this can be quite discouraging. My sincere apologies. Regarding the talk page: an older admin, Joe, did go on a spree deleting older talk pages that didn't have relevant info. I looked at the old versions, and I can sort of see what he was going for. It was stuff from 2014 theories that were totally irrelevant to anything, but I don't know, the talk page could have been kept. Regardless, I don't think there's too many of those, and feel free to post on the talk page this, or the user's talk page! 2
Nitpicking Posted March 30, 2023 Author Posted March 30, 2023 Please do not apologize for someone else's actions, sir! I didn't even want an apology from Reinhart, just a reason. I was sincerely confused and unsure what to do, so I figured I'd ask. I've done much more Wikipedia editing than Coppermind, and I didn't want to presume that the culture here is the same (and of course, it isn't). I'll un-revert after work today, then. Thank you (and your fellow Keepers) for taking the time.

If I had to guess, I think Reinhart added orders to every Herald infobox, which we reverted because except for Nale they are not formally part of the order. That might be his logic there. I do think this is a subtle distinction.
