"Sure you could. You're immortal, and smart. You probably don't need my healing, so what do you need me for?"

"I have three reasons. One, I need someone around in case I use too much of my soul up and forget who I am. Two, I can't heal easily, and that ability will be vital in our fight against Malum. Three, I just really enjoy your company. I admire people who say what they think." Careful. "And besides, if I don't beat Malum, you die again. I'm definitely going to need any help I can get."

She would send the raven back with at the very least a confirmation of message received.

At the third reason, his expression softened. "Fine. I think I'd like the company, too. It was pretty lonely down there."

Kay. So I’m pulling this from another novel idea—this stuff doesn’t actually appear in the novel, though. The Evikains (kingdom on the other side of Nolikar (which is a filler name sort of cuz it sounds like Alethkar)) need to desolate Nolikar completely, but they need to find the source of Nolikar’s unbeatability first. Haly’s power has been figuring it out, but she doesn’t know this, cuz it’s just dreams. So yeah, he could work on that. I think it would be sort of cool for Rylla to start sort of existing separately from Haly, so maybe there would be manifestations to follow.

Alternately, instead of learning this from Rylla, Ashli could be researching it and come across the info, then send him to Evika.

Thoughts? Y/N/M?

“I’ll try,” she sighed. “I should probably choose something nice to wear, but nice things are annoying to wear, and I’m not sure exactly how nice to go. Um… suggestions?”

That's sounds interesting. I'm fine with it.

"Well, I can't say I know much about... any of this. I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish."

Wynn stroked Snuffle's head.

"Come on. I've had enough of the End of Time for a few centuries. Let's go somewhere more hospitable."

BRB making a library run. I have fifty near-overdue books. This is getting out of control.

"Do you have a place in mind?" He glanced at Snuffle inquisitively. "And is that a robot dog?"

Thanks.

The raven returned eventually with a letter.

Wynn,

The report carried by our representative gives us a few concerns, but nothing major. As you believe your accusation was based on a misunderstanding, we will deal with these small problems later, particularly as we are facing some particularly pesky problems at the moment.

Good luck with your quest,

Anastasia

"Interested in what? If you're trying to avoid a marriage, wouldn't you want to dissuade him a bit? And, uh, how does one dress coy?"

“If I dissuade him, he loses interest and our time is up. Um, I don’t know. Lipstick or something, I guess.”

“I’ll go get changed and be right—“ she was cut off by a knock at the living room door, so she left the library to open it.

”Good morning,” Ashli said. “Might you chance to know where Evander is?”

”Uhhh…” after a moment, realization reached her face. “Oh! Yeah. He’s in the library. Come in.”

Ashli followed her. “Good morning, Evander.”

Ashli glanced at Haly. “I think I might actually be onto something. I could use another eye, though, if you wouldn’t mind lending aid while Evalyn woos Tiernan.”

Haly grimaced at that.

"See you. I-" The words caught in his throat. Not in front of Ashli. He turned to the woman. "Where are we going, then?"

“My office.” She led him out of Haly’s apartment—after Haly said bye—and down the hall to a flight of stairs leading down. “I prefer to work out of sight, especially with all the Nolikan delegates. Even if they are in the separate guest wings.”

“A pattern.” She opened a nondescript door, descended some stairs into a small, dark, stone room, and then pulled a scroll out of a desk and spread it out. A map of the stars. “Our sky is rather temperamental. Celestial events are not uncommon. Usually.”

"What type of pattern? What kind of significance would that sort of thing have?"

“Our world has some inherent magic, particularly in the west. That’s important.” She pointed to a spot in the chart right in the middle of a group of stars. “There. Right there. Every night after the Nolikans make another conquest, there’s a comet. A red comet. Where it comes from is seemingly random, but it always vanishes right there. I’ve tried connecting the stars, and I’ve come out with this…” she pulled a scrap of paper out of another drawer and showed him. It was a many-pointed star, almost symmetrical.

"So what you're saying is... The Nolikans have a magical connection to their military. Some sort of magical aid, maybe?"

“Something… I’m searching these books…” she gestured to the stacks in the corners of the room and on the desk— “for this symbol. I’m close, I can tell.”

TAAron can find it—I’ll give you a rundown of the approximate stuff it says

"Oh, I can help with that." TAAron tapped zinc, increasing his mental speed to frightening levels. He began flipping through the books, faster than it would seem possible to gain any information. After only a minute or two, he stopped. "There."

It’s an older book, handwritten, and it’s a legend There’s also an artistic picture of a graceful bird, and talks about how the bird gave a talisman to the world in the form of a simple wooden necklace. Supposedly it’s the gift of rage. Any who possess it cannot be beaten, and the use will invoke the sign in the sky.

Ashli swept over. “Oh dear,” she said softly. “Well. I’m not sure what to do with this.”
