So, Kaladin is made a slave and the surviving members of his squad are killed so that Meridas Amaram can get a shardblade. We know that Amaram doesn't like to share the credit, but is a big fan of sharing the blame, but...

Amaram implies that his buddy Restares was the man who was "right". When he is talking to a storm warden about killing the remaining members of Kaladin’s squad.

Why did Restares want that?

Just in case there is a person who clicked by accident and hasn't read Rhythm of War...

Spoiler

So, why did Kalak/ Restares think that Kaladin's squad should die? Is Kaladin going to hold a grudge?

This raises the big question... What were the Sons of Honor really doing? We will get some answers from Gavilar in book 5, hopefully, but with Ameram, Ialai and Restares and his interludes there should be some sorts of clues.

I'd have to review the context, but it could be something as simple as Restares wanting to maintain control of as many powerful artifacts as possible. He was at odds with both the Ghostbloods and the Skybreakers, so he didn't want the shards to be taken/reclaimed by either of those groups. As for Kaladin holding a grudge, I think that if/when he finds out about that connection the answer is almost certainly "yes," though he has already sworn to protect those he hates if it is right -- so we'll see if he sticks to that.

It's true that the Sons of Honor's stated purpose during Gavilar's time (i.e., to bring back both the radiants and voidbringers) seems to be at odds with Restares' personal interests, but it seems like he saw that as a necessary prerequisite for escaping from Roshar (which he already saw as a lost cause).

Amaram didn't specify what Restares was "right" about. It's possible that Amaram was referring to something more general, like how he said that they needed trained Shardbearers in the days to come. Though, it's also possible it can be taken at face value and Restares did advise Amaram to do that. Even if he didn't, and Kaladin remembers Amaram mentioning Restares in connection with the choice he made to kill his squad, Kaladin is going to be pretty pissed if he encounters Kelek and he is identified as Restares. I have a feeling that will be something that tests Kaladin's commitment to his Oaths.

Thanks! I didn't actually have the book with me. Yeah, I think it will test his oaths too...

Thaidakar is killing the Sons of Honor, but also interviewing them as he does so. I feel like there must be some reason or provocation by the Sons of Honor. There has to be a reason for Thaidakar to want to kill members of this group in addition to stealing their ideas about getting Restares offworld.

Could it have to do with the rivalry with Gavilar. Restares and Thaidakar are the two suspects Gavilar had in mind. Obviously, they all care about the cosmere and have realized that they need influence and resources for cosmere wide operations, but there is something underlying that they are fighting for and it doesn't seem to be the anti-investiture sphere that Gavilar had, but it does seem to be something they would both really be interested in...
