I have been reading some of the spoilers, and A huge question I have after reading Words of Radiance is if Nightblood can use stormlight. one of the WoB states the following:

Q: How long as Zahel been slumming it on Roshar?

A: For quite a long time, on this planet he can get something quite easily that is much harder to get where he came from.

So is breath the same thing as stormlight? If that is the case, then Nightblood will be able to feed off of infused spheres...

My other thought is that it might use a specific type of spren which would be more like breath.

Please discuss!

This is just a theory!  I never meant to imply that "any" average Joe would be able to learn it.  I purely focused in on the fact that these people were not glowing as bright as the Knight.  

This led me to believe that it was because they were not able to hold as much stormlight as the KR.  If this were the case, it would seem likely that they do not have the Nahel Bond, as the bond would grant them similar "brightness" as the KR.  

To me, it is similar to the difference of Kaladin and Szeth in ability to hold onto stormlight.

While reading the Dalinar vision from WoR Chapter 4, I realized this line once everybody began fighting the Thunderclast within the vision.

Dalinar finished repeating the words. Beyond him, the fight began in earnest, water splashing, rock grinding. Soldiers approached bearing hammers, and unexpectedly, these men now also glowed with Stormlight, though far more faintly.

It seems that using Stormlight is not exclusive to those with the Nahel bond.  This passage in WoR shows that the common soldiers were also able to use a technique that allowed them a somewhat stymied flow or stormlight...or the stormlight leaked from them much more quickly.  Just like Szeth.

If this is the case, I do no believe Szeth is alone in the Shin society of warriors who are capable of using stormlight.  With this information, I foresee Moash, Sigzil and others to also find a way of using stormlight, albeit with much shorter times(like Szeth) of holding it. 

After reviewing Dalinar's vision in WoR chapter 4,  The "Obsidian" structure at the purelake seems to be the gateway to something(Urithiru?).  Consequently, it is the purelake where we see our three travelers waiting for Hoid in WoK.  Is it possible that traveling between worlds must happen at a specific place within Roshar?

That being said,  It would make sense to me that when Dalinar was a soldier in his vision, he was guarding the Gateway to other worlds entirely.  This leads me to believe that Urithiru was not even on Roshar, yet still in the physical realm.  Whoever Sja-anat is, he has a great desire to get through this gateway.

“It’s here, then,” the knight said. “Sja-anat’s spy. Caeb, run to the checkpoint. The rest of you, keep watching. It won’t be able to go far without a carrier.” She yanked something off her belt, a small pouch.

To me the Parshendi seem alot like the Kandra in Mistborn.  Although they may have been a creation of a being who is misusing his power, they still have there own decisions and desires for good.  I think they would be just as opposed to Odiums return as the humans simply for the fact that part of the process to create them could have given Odium power to control them.  I am guessing the new found form in words of radiance, while not inherently evil, gives Odium the ability to control them to his own will. 

Not that i'm complaining, but I didn't expect to see another excerpt so soon... At this rate we will be on ~chapter 24 when the book comes out. That would be absolutely awesome, but somehow I don't trust it.

 

That makes me worried that we have had our last excerpt before release date...

During Brandon's freewrite for World Builders, Peter commented in the chat that there would be 2 more sets of chapters...It was before Chapters 6,8 and 9 so I think we can expect at least one more set of chapters!

Maybe this is known by the forum frequenter, but It seems to me like Amaram is part of the GhostBloods.  Is it possible he saw Kaladin glowing while he was fighting the shardbearer.  If this is the case, I think he had a moral conflict between the mission of the ghostbloods and his own personal wish not to harm Kaladin for saving his life.  If this were the case, he did what was the most moral thing he could think of.  Destroy all witnesses to Kaladins KR potential and let Kaladin go as a slave.  At least this way he didn't have to swing the ax himself.

Not sure we can infer that the Dawnshards are a weapon from this necessarily.

 

Tanavast could be saying a number of things here:

 

1/ Without the Dawnshards, you have no hope of defeating a champion of Odium.

 

OR

 

2/ Without the Dawnshards you will not be able to make Odium choose a champion.

 

Personally I tend towards the second option.

 

The quote implies either a weapon (can be used to fight a champion of Odium) OR a tool which can somehow be used to influence the behaviour of a full Shard (can get Odium to choose a champion).

 

Either way, they are clearly extremely powerful artifacts.

 

As an asside, the quote linking the Dawnshards with binding creatures is interesting to me. Particularly since we have encounterd the concept of binding inherent to the Magic of Roshar - Surgebinding, Voidbinding, Nahel Bonds etc.

 

So there also seems some connection between Dawnshards and the Magic on Roshar. Mabe the Dawnshards were used to create the first Surgebinders?

I personally think the "Old Magic" is the product of the dawnshards.  Who knows, perhaps Odium was once fooled into making a deal that he did not fully know the ramifications of.  Perhaps that deal is still in place?  This is why "Darkness" from the Lift interlude is so hell bent on justice.  Somehow, that deal included the Radiants to relinquish there abilities/powers.  Now, the new generation of Radiants are possibly and unknowingly rediscovering powers that are inadvertantly breaking an oath that has been keeping Odium from bringing the voidbringers.  Likewise, if any of the Parshendi bring back the voidbringers, that could also be a breach of the initial treaty.  Just a Theory :-)

One thing I am pretty sure on.  Brandon Sanderson always limits his magic.  I am just excited to see what the limitations of these shardblades are.  So many unknowns about them!
