How about stormwalkers? Better description according to what we know - they definitely seem to walk the storms.

Like a perfect poem, like a turning wheel, like a swift and winding river, and nothing at all like any of them. It's difficult to describe it, but the world of the story fits it the same way an theatre fits a play - every element, as it is, is perfect for the moment, and yet it isn't the only moment, or the only story, and it would be perfect for any of them. Really, this is the best way to sell the prose: When a character's dialogue shifts to poetry and prose, not merely conversation, you can hardly tell the difference, and it never feels pretentious. Unless it's supposed to.

"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work

It's like organ donation, but the organ is your soul and donating it always kills you! Yeah, I'm thinking that in a society modeled after our present-day values, with a mythology filled with Hemalurgic monsters, it's going to be opposed by many people, on ethical, religious, and social grounds. I can see it operating on the black market, though. -

Sorry, that was a joke. You need to have read Warbreaker to get the context. -
It's probably some of the most beautiful prose, tight characterisation, and breathtaking world building that I've ever seen. The thematic aspect is handled masterfully, and, whether you like tight, sanderson-esque energy magic, LeGuin style mystical command, or capricious illusion, there are ample amounts. I would honestly say that Rothfuss's work is better than Sanderson in many ways, though he's nowhere neat as prolific.

I believe that slowswift was a Tolkien cameo.

You know, I wonder what would happen if you Nicrobursted a compounder with a stomach full of feruchemically charged metal that he was burning?
-
Huh. I never noticed that.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When, passing through airport security, you wonder why people don't hide bombs by piercing their skin with them. On an unrelated note, does anybody else spend their time in those lines looking for ways to get an unscanned package past security? Or am I just weird? -
[GAME] If you were a Mistborn in real life...
Swimmingly replied to Steel's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Man, they coulda used you back in Newcago. You could have taken out most of Steelheart's infrastructure and probably crushed his palace in a couple of flybys, then stored iron, pushed against the largest metal anchor in the world, and hit the stratosphere while escaping. Actually, you might want to keep the weight about the same or slightly lighter until you hit the flight ceiling, then store like a madman to drift in the jetstream. -

When someone calls for their friend named "Seth" and you feel a flash of fear. -
Well, you can tell that it's going to be quite the series when, at two books of ten, it's already described as a "slog".

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

The unholy mass of psychological disorders a mix of those two characters would be... I mean, they're both stable on their own. But, well... Also, Lirael and Laral. What a mess. Odium and the Destroyer at once, how about that? -

There is a simpler way to put that, you know. *ahem* Destroy Evil -
Though I believe Brandon has put him in as the most powerful non-shard in the Cosmere - assuming no others are shattered, that makes him the 14th most powerful sentient being in the Cosmere. Though apparently Khriss knows more.

The Philosophy of The Stormlight Archive

No. Lift is a person who doesn't fit the stereotypes - graceful, etc. However, it's an error to assume that everyone following a particular moral philosophy is going to fit a stereotype. As demonstrated, she manages to find the Second Ideal under pressure. Besides, she's a child, with a pretty terrible childhood. -
But I'm pretty sure Duralumin burns itself out as well, in the actual book. I think you caught an error.

The Philosophy of The Stormlight Archive

I would be very interested to see, say, a spren who bonded with someone that opposed their moral viewpoint out of curiosity. They would be of course handicapping that person's progress as a Knight Radiant, but if that person managed to convert a spren to a different philosophy, I wonder if the exact Ideals needed to advance would change, as well. This is probably silly, because it looks like moral outlook is as intrinsic to spren as blood type is to us. -
There do not necessarily need to be downsides - perhaps you grow an awareness of your steel lines that doesn't require you to look at them, and you pick up useful, subtle tricks like the steel bubble. You might come to depend on using blue lines to orient yourself. Someone like Ranette, who has tailored her environment to be ideal for the Lurcher, might simply become extremely aware of the position of every major source of metal in her house. Completely off-topic, if I were Ranette, I'd set up a bunch of big metal anchors on pendulums around the house, so any Coinshot coming to kill me would push on the wrong source and get the wrong effect.

Perhaps they pull off something similar to the cage Leras used, but powering it with a spren, instead - and, it being that much weaker, it will fail that much quicker - in time for pentology #2, where everyone's prepared, and the real badass happens. -

Or Sazed manifests: "I do not mean to cause offense, People of Scadrial, but you are mistreating my HOLY EFFING ANGELS, I think. Some gods might consider that just cause for divine retribution, would they not? Please, think on this matter. Thank you." -

Yeah that could get inconvenient - break a bone, and, whoops, looks like Harmony's Faceless Immortals are gonna have to splint themselves, huh? -
How to Build a Magic System (with Sample)
Swimmingly replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Creator's Corner
It seems to me that a spirit could make your life a living hell - imagine, for a moment, just what kind of depravities someone with no ability to be hurt by you, no physical needs, and the ability to appear to you at any time could get up to. Do you enjoy sleep? Hahahaha good luck with that. Also, on the nature of items made spirit-y: Do they act like the items themselves, or are they sort of "idealized" versions of the items? Not in appearance, but in function. For example, if I bring a notepad and pencil, does the pencil wear away and the notepad run out of pages eventually, or do they turn pseudomagical, giving me an infinite number of pages to scribble on and tear out? If I leave those pages around for the person who holds my binding, will they find them even if I'm in my natural state at the moment? Perhaps, is it simply that I can renew any item I bring back to its original state every once in a while, erasing all the pieces of it I've left about? It seems like, if the idealized item thing works, you just might want to bring a pack of cards. And something alcoholic to drink. It occurs to me, with the renewal thing, a drunk spirit can instantly sober himself by renewing the bottle of liquor he drunk from. Without renewal or hallicinomagical items, a savvy to-be-spirit might bring as many small comforts as he can carry with him to exchange for favours or other goods. Like cigarettes in a prison. What happens if one spirit gives something he brought to another one? Does that thing change ownership, and is from there on bound to that spirit?- 5 replies
