    It happens easily, taking barely a thought to activate whatever she’s doing. But, alarmingly, more power is being pulled through than intended - maybe even more power than she should be able to access, depending upon its source. This amount of power feels like she could do far more than simply shape some metal. Another alarming thing is that the metal goes much farther than skin deep; she’s sent ripples through and torn off pieces of Veer’s skin, muscles, and quite possibly more important things. The start of the rash was his left shoulder, after all; not far from his heart. Even with only a tiny bit of lost metal, there is some blood on his arm where the rash was removed. It feels manipulatable as well, which is perhaps a bad sign. Veer, for his part, is less alarmed than he should be. “This feels like it should hurt, but it doesn’t. I’ve heard of people that grow spellsteel within them. In some stories, they supposedly turn to statues; in others, they are invincible, unaging, and superhuman warriors; and in still other stories, they become the successors to dragons long dead, growing wings and tails, matching both the form and power of the dragons of old. I didn’t think I could be one of them, though. I already had a Gift.” @InfiniteInsanity and @SpiritOfWrath might be there too, actually.

    “Yes. It grew off both my magic and Ella’s. But it seems to mess it up as well; instead of focus and integrate, it corrupts and consumes.” Veer motions to a silver circlet on his head. The left half has melded with the corruption, but the right half sparkles in rainbow colors. “This is real spellsteel, for reference. Although it may have been covered; I can’t get it off.”

    “The suit looks fine; it should take one hit close range before Kaleb starts getting hurt, but what I meant was Kaleb. Is he fine with an adrenaline infusion or something? He looks a little shell shocked.”

    “That’s interesting. We use magic, generally. People with a healing Gift oftentimes channel their power through spellsteel objects, then sell them once they absorb enough power for others to use them.”

    “Huh. I wonder how that works.” Veer puts the guns back, not realizing that carrying weapons isn’t ordinary outside of his world. It is called the Lawless for a reason, after all.

    “Ok, that would probably help. What’s an x-ray? Is it like the leg device? Or these?” Veer pulls out the two guns he’d taken from the thugs sent for [uh. Forgot his name. @SpiritOfWrath’s main character].

    Nick pings OWEN. “I don’t have time to talk to him; can you snap him into battle mode? The moon crystals will be useful for countering the grenades. Is his xenosuit ready yet? I think you’ve seen why those grenades are not to be messed with.” Nick, having an idea, pulls out a grenade and some adhesive and hands them to Sleeper. @TheRavenHasLanded “Stick this to a flying dagger, pull the pin, and go explode that squad.”

    Rust waves a tendril over it, and the nodes jumps to the others. “Yes, it did not. What did you think it would do?”

    The node sits there, not moving unless Adtae has any metal objects within a foot of it. “Did it work?” asks Rust from outside the shadows.

    Nick dashes forward, trying to open the trapdoor and throw the grenade back up. Who knows if he has enough time, though.

    “Thank you. Yes, my ribs are broken, or at least bruised. Although they hurt less than they did earlier. Maybe it’s just those painkillers.” The metal gives a bit, bending at what is apparently a seam. It’s springy there, which is a strange texture for metal. But nothing bad seems to happen.

    “Yes. In emergencies, you can make words faster than gestures. But you could become tired, so you should do this usually.” Rust extends a tendril, and drops a node through the hole in the shadows. Said node, untethered from Rust’s consciousness, simply attempts to stick to anything metal and to slingshot around any actual magnets. It does contain few memories for reference, which would sit dormant unless the node moved several dozen feet and overwrote them with a map of the area.

    “Ok. I had some dreams. They were fun; I could do more things than I can in real life. Like eat a pie.”

    “That is good. We have defeated another copper human. This new way to communicate is better, if shapes are hard. If shapes are easy, I can know things faster with words than gestures.” They contract, thinking. “We should try to have one node look at you.”

    @Spark of Hope @Through The Living Glass Cole walks back to the table, now with more food that he hopefully paid for. “So… what are we talking about?”

    Rust continues to wave the scythe around, turning it to the correct position so it can wrap around the woman.

    Veer smiles. “That’s great! I don’t actually know if it will spread by touch, but I don’t want to risk it. So yes, gloves are probably a good idea.” The corrupted spellsteel isn’t just grey, it mutes colors in its crisp reflections. And even stranger, things closer to it have greyer reflections than things far away; perhaps if something was far enough its colors would be intact. “Earth, the synonym for dirt? I’m from the Lawless; it would be past your Edge, I think.” Veer moves his leg to make it easier, hissing in pain but not flinching. “As I said, I don’t actually know how it spreads, or if it will. We could test it, but I don’t want any telekinetic lab rats made from nearly impenetrable metal running around.” The rash has reached the top of his thigh, but is far enough from the break that touching it won’t be a problem. Oddly, the rash area there is long and thin, going down the leg instead of spreading evenly.

    As the mist seeps away, Rust tries to hit the woman with the flat side of the scythe, not really knowing how it works. Cutting a Ferrian does not work nearly as well as crushing one, after all.

    “Yes. Even normal spellsteel can only be created with magic. Whatever this is is very magical.”

    “It takes magic and it makes you use it. It changes the magic, lets you do things that aren’t possible, but you can’t control it. A King’s advisor grabbed me, and caused it somehow. It started as itching, but when I use magic - when it makes me use magic - it grows. That’s all I know so far. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

    “It is spellsteel. Or, something that should be spellsteel. Instead of focusing my magic, it’s eating it.”

    Veer nods. “If you could, that would be invaluable. Don’t worry, as long as you don’t touch whatever this is, and I don’t melt down again, you’ll be fine.”

    Cole goes up to somebody who looks like they work at the tavern, and does exactly that, still eating someone else’s breakfast he stole.

    “That would work, I assume. But how is that possible? You can heal people without using magic?” Veer, lying down on the hospital bed and half covered in grey metal, nods. “Hello. Are you injured too? I can wait.”
