For Willshapers it probably depends on a lot of factors, like who's being taken hostage, how severe is the situation, and who benefits from the arrangement
My first evil thought when running Willshaper through this exercise was, (depending on the hostage of course lol), “My oaths say I’m not allowed to take you hostage...so I’m just going to kill you instead.” *shrug emoji*

The Epigraphs of Part 5 of RoW are all from the perspective of El, a Fused who I am already happy to be freaking scared of for Book 5.
Rereading them all, I noticed a couple of things that make me really concerned for how the challenge will end up.
His thoughts are spread over 19 chapters, but it isn't anything he himself actually says that set me off. It's the notation at the bottom of each.
"Musings of El, on the first of the Final Ten Days."
History is written by the victors. These are obviously thoughts collected by a historian AFTER the Challenge, calling the ten days agreed upon, the Final Ten Days. This in itself isn't concerning, an Alethi scholar could call it that just as easily.
But the attribution is simply to El. Not, "Odium's General," not, "Ancient Fused," not "El, defeated at the Battle of Ral Ellorim" or whatever. Just. El. And just his idle musings.El has his rhythms and title removed, and he is well-known for this in Fused society. Titles are very important and used as honorifics regularly. NOT having a title would be glaring, and just as telling, and it stands to reason that Singers would note El as simply El, because that is what he is, and all THEY need to know.
El, the titleless, who is ubiquitous for a very good, likely very depressing reason. Usually, a winning force wouldn't carefully collect the idle musings of an enemy combatant on the nature and virtues of subjugating humanity, but a Singer historian, recording the Final Ten Days of the war they'd been forced to fight for thousands of years?
Yeah, that could happen.
Dalinar will lose.

My name is Adolin nice to see you baby

I just want you to draw with me tonight
So come on, oh baby
I just want you to draw with me tonightWe're getting higher, don't get shyer, see the sky now
Loosen up and let your chalk go down, down
Scribble it girl, just let me see your eyes, yeahI see the starspren posing for your work now,
Looking at you I can tell I love you
Don't stop keep sketching till the morning light, yeahWhen I saw you there
Hiding all alone in your mind
Acting like you had the hardest cares

And draw with me tonight
One more time, one more time, come on now

Do your thing (yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Make me wanna sing
I just want you to draw with me tonight (come on)
I just wanna, oh baby
I just want you to draw with me tonightEverybody, everybody buzz of now

Pretty girl let me see your eyes
We can hang all through the night
I just want you to draw with me tonight0 -

The sequel is going to be killer, Jewels was taking Clod to Yesteel for some upgrades so we have definitely not seen everything they’ve got yet.
With Yesteel making better ichors, I’m almost seeing a Frankenstein’s monster kind of storyline happening

Does anyone think Vasher may have given Nightblood to Nale directly? He’s been on Roshar for a while now, considering Adolin has known him for years when he’s first introduced.

Could logicspren be cousins to both Inkspren and Mistspren? Cousins everywhere, gancho.

Since spren being vulnerable is new, and they’re destroyed, I wonder if they won’t end up following the same rules as atium on Scadrial from Era 1: It eventually collects and coalesces again.
May not be Phendorana anymore at the end, but I wonder if her stuff won’t eventually recollect and be able to be made into a new spren.

Spoiler
Wasn’t it the trick at the end of Warbreaker that the D’Delir statues had bones encased in them that remembered human movement?
It’d be super cool if the stone itself remembered being human, but then would it become a theoretical question about Soulcasting and Awakening combined?
Do the things turned to stone remember being human after they are told to be stone? The human shape is achieved of course, but stone alone cannot be awakened by pretty much anyone on Roshar OR Nalthis except for one person.
That changes if the soul of the item remembers after it is soulcast, what it used to be.

The Alethi, IIRC, were targeted specifically by The Thrill for generations because Odium was looking to breed a champion. If all the wars they conducted were spurred on and encouraged by the Unmade, establishing a code of conduct like that would have just been in the way, and they adopted a more Might Is Right mindset as a result.
The Way of Kings, inworld, is also a book of wartime conduct, and one Sadeas dismissed as sissy stuff right away after having it read to him. These more honorable conducts were seen as weakness not just by Sadeas, who definitely enjoyed The Thrill, but the other Highprinces as well. With The Thrill hidden for now, it’s likely Dalinar’s and true Honor’s conduct can take hold, but it still has a ways to go because of how generationally engrained their mindset is.
(If you were to go to Azir, it’s very likely you’d find some code of war conduct like this buried under mountains of paperwork.)

As with many in universe beliefs regarding the limits of magic systems, the belief that Breaths can't be forcibly taken may very well be wrong. I'm almost positive Hemalurgy could be used to take them for instance. Also, for a Shard it might be trivial to remove Breaths.
And new Shards are supposed to have a certain freedom, even if it results in them flailing and misplacing, maybe, a whole continent in the process. Perhaps the Intent still hadn’t blocked him entirely off from being able to do wild stuff yet, hence the clumsiness the WoB mentioned in Teravangian’s excising.

I actually liked this, I felt it humanized him. That just because he's ancient he's got basic human needs and desires. Though I do fully understand the reasons others don't like it
I get being weirded out by it because of the age and craziness reasons, but I totally agree with you here.
He has to carry millennia of worries and plans, and if he doesn’t screw around, have fun, and get truly involved with people, he’d likely go just as crazy as every Cognitive Shadow that tries to live above humanity instead.

Odium is an interesting case, considering he’s the first Shard vessel who has died from a “physical” attack. The others have been ripped up by other Shards. *cough RayseYouJerk cough*
Pocket God dimension is cool, and I wonder what Nightblood screwball stuff is involved in all that, reaching physically but stabbing interdimensionally.

I accept there will be uncles I cannot protect
Apologies for the length but Stefon had a lot to say about Rosharan nightlife
Transcript for size considerations:
SpoilerSeth: Well the Oathgates are fired up, and tourists are exploring Roshar! With ideas on how to spend Middlefest, it’s our Rosharan corespondent, Stefon!
Stefon: Hi.
Seth: Hey, you aren’t looking so good, you ok?
Stefon: No, I partied in Kholinar and I can’t remember a thing.
Seth: Aaalright, well we have tourists looking for fun, what do you have?
Stefon: Alright, so Roshar’s hottest club is “Stormdaddy.” Located at The Purelake’s weirdest warm spot, this Nightwatcher-induced blackout answers the question, “What was Aiden even doing there?”
This place has EVERYTHING. Bonds, oaths, Polident Extra Strength...Freud-light.Seth: Don’t you mean ‘Voidlight’?
Stefon: No, Freudlight. It doesn’t power the binding you think, and your mom looks really pretty in it.
Seth: You know, I don’t think this is what we’re looking for. What about big families with kids?
Stefon: Right. Got it. So if you’re the fifth son of a Horneater family and it’s your job to Just Freaking Rage, then do I have the place for you.
Roshar’s hottest wine dive is [FRANTIC CHULL MATING NOISES].
Undead child emperor and celebrated sushi artist Yanaprawn the First is back, and this time, he has. Gone. CRAZY.
This place has EVERYTHING. Drums, beats, a 16-piece dinette set...MY DEADEYE.
At the door, the bouncer will ask the pass phrase, “What’s your favorite ship?”
The answer?
“Moash and a slow-moving woodchipper.”
And performing this Saturday is Larry the Shardblade Swallower. Watch closely, he can only do this once.Seth: Stefon, I’m not sure you’re taking this seriously. What about taking a girl on a nice date?
Stefon: Yesyesyesyes, ok, so if you’re a bored, bisexual Brightlady with a penchant for larceny, Roshar’s hottest club is,
“So Yes, I, Adolin Kholin - Cousin to the King, Heir to the Kholin Princedom - Have Shat My Shardplate. Three Times, All On Purpose.”
Inspired by the Deathrattle of a victim of autoerotic asphyxiation, this chouta cart overturned in a police chase has EVERYTHING.
Axes the Erector, thottspren, that one guy who swears he lost his class ring right by where you’re sitting...
And look by the bar! Is that Ishar, Herald of Luck?
No, it’s a pack of coked-up axehounds trumping the Golden Girls themesong.
Remember to come on Luau Night to hit the dance floor with a pack of Human Saddle Straps.Seth: What...is a Human Saddle Strap?
Stefon: It’s that thing where you get a Herdazian to bite down on a broken strap, and when it’s secure he mumbles, “Looks good, gancho.”
Seth: Does that actually work with a Shardbearer?
Stefon: I dunno, but I’ve never lost my seat.
Seth: WOAH-kay, so I don’t know if any of these work as a tourist destination...
...They’re more like if Cultivation got a hold of a sketch pad and Horneater White after a bad breakup...Stefon: Fair.
Seth: ...But you seem to really want people to have fun. You should come with me to my town Middlefest faire.
Stefon: KISSING BOOTH!
Seth: Goodnight everyone.
Stefon: You are a very strange woman.

Dalinar Will Lose - Part 5 Epigraphs
in Stormlight Archive
Posted · Edited by TheSprengineer
Journey before destination, friend. Plenty of people name their kids after lost heroes.
I’m not saying you’re wrong or that I’m dying on this hill, of course, but naming a kid after a badass is not a guarantee of the badasses’ safety.
I do see Dalinar as more plot-expendable though now that Navani is a Bondsmith that can keep their key fallback point entirely secure.
