I have already listened to Brandon read part one of secret project 1, and then I might have watched the spoiler discussion on secret project 1 as well. I am so very excited for all of the secret project books I just didn't have the self control to wait!

Glad I'm not the only one!

Upon listening to Brandon's reading of the secret Project one chapters, I'm glad I did. It basically just sets up the story, and I feel like I would run into the information gleaned inadvertantly sometime in the next year anyways. And the full release is long enough away that I think it will still be fresh and new when I read it for real. Looking forward to the next ones!

Well I said I wouldn't and my willpower lasted for about 10 minutes after finding out the update was posted... I am just too curious about these to not take a peek under the kimono...
Yes after reading the description I might end up just reading the chapters after all haha. Then I can enjoy all the RAFOs on the live streams too haha (so much for willpower)

I've decided I think I'll look at the titles and inspiration but not read the chapters. Thanks for the input!! It's so hard to not talk about it, but I think I'll enjoy them more reading fresh

I didn't even know there were sample chapters lol. I won't be reading them, as it would just leave me wanting more, and already knowing what happens in the first few chapters might detract from my enjoyment of the whole book.
They'll be coming out on YouTube/print over the next few weeks

I'm curious as to how many of you are planning to read/listen to the sample chapters for the Secret Project books and start theorizing, and how many are wanting to go in fresh when they're released next year?
I am undecided and see merits to both. Please comment on your plan (Yay or Nay) and why!!

I agree storms is the most versatile/easiest to say, but rust and ruin is my favorite because it just works soooo well with the world and what is important/relevant to them

Lol as an audiobook listener, I've certainly been surprised at the spelling of some names. I usually check before I post so I don't look doofy, but here are some of the Vorin Man Spellings in my head:
Caladin
Chandra
Kai (the city)
Rheoden
Sorini
Scion
... I'm sure there are plenty more, but those are what I can think of. I have to say the Elantris ones are the worst because you don't expect the long vowel Aon spelling when you're listening to it.

Oh really?? Haha I don't think I caught that. I'm listening on the audiobook though so maybe it was corrected.
I also keep making connections that I thought were original, then searching in here finding out is definitely old news lol. Like the mention of a flute in the Lord Ruler's room (Hoid's?)

I'm doing a re-read of the cosmere, and am enjoying finding things I totally missed the first time. For example:
I'm reading through Well of Ascension again and
SpoilerThere are so many hints that "OreSeur" is the imposter. From the complete personality change to not knowing things he really should know. At first read I thought it was a device to catch up the reader after a break between books, but now it seems so obvious!
I'd love to hear some of your big realizations!

Haha I ran out of rep for today too going through this thread. @FeatherWriter your keteks are incredible!!
Here are my attempts. The first is a minor spoiler for Oathbringer:

I mean, he's allowed to mentally injure people or cause harm through inaction but even thinking about causing physical trauma will make him nauseous. I don't think convincing a pig to jump off a cliff is gonna get around it because he'd have to contemplate essentially convincing a living thing to commit suicide.
Plus, he clearly isn't the one killing and preparing the food at various feasts we see him at so it's not just a block on killing the animal himself but other people killing animals for meat that triggers whatever his prohibition is. Unless we get a firm answer about a Radiant able to Soulcast bacon, Hoid's best bet is probably for somewhere in the Cosmere to have soybeans or similar that can be made into a passable bacon substitute.
Randomly, Barbossa's whole thing with apples in Pirates of the Caribbean just popped into my head. I find myself wondering if in MB4 Hoid will find some way to eat bacon again at the cost of his immortality and decide: Worth it.
So can Hoid eat roadkill? (Or it's Rosharan equivalent... a hog that got out into a highstorm and was freshly crushed by a boulder?)

Did I completely miss Tien having a spren? It's talked about in the stream like it's common knowledge, but I definitely didn't make that connection.

I mean, the name "Hoid" likely predates the Shattering as well. We know it's something he took from his dead master, who presumably was a pre-Shattering person.
Based on the below WoB, I'd say it's likely the name he used with the Vessels and stuff, but not his "real" name.
If you've read Dawnshard, I have a bit more of specific theory on it:
I bet it's a name he adopted upon becoming Dawnshard, and this was the "long-term identity".
I agree the name Hoid likely predates the shattering too. The point I was trying to make (unclearly haha) is that I get the feeling that he doesn't widely use his original name, so if people post shattering know him by a name, it likely isn't the original. That's pure speculation though.

Reference to Hoid losing his head at the end of Dragonsteel? (Which is where the name comes from.)
Oh could be! I haven't read dragonsteel

Correct me if I'm wrong, dont have my copy handy right now, but doesn't Rayse call him Cephandrius in that scene? Surely that implies that this is the name Rayse knew him under originally. Obviously that doesn't need to mean that Cephandrius is his first, real, name, but surely it is somewhat implied. Cephandrius is also the name Leras/Preservation uses, so it's probably his real name. This is somewhat in conflict with this WoB where Brandon says Cephandrius is just a very old alias, and not his real name. Not sure if this has been retconned, or Hoid had already been around for a while prior to meeting the original Vessels.
My understanding from that WoB is that Cephandrius is old, but not the original. It seems to be the name the shards are most familiar with.

Is liar of Partinel considered canon? The Heralds call him Midius, which would mean he used it after the shattering.
On the subject of Cephandrius, I can't help but think of the Greek routes ceph (head) and andro (man). Do you think this implies a title that he was the "head of men" or "leader of men" at the time?

A cosmere re read is a major undertaking! I am planning to do it as well. In fact I have started with TFE!
I'm thinking I'll try publication order this time. I'm going to take a short break to read a few other things though. I'm really excited to read Mistborn again now that I have the whole cosmere context though!

Lols no biggie but mods prefer if you don't double post. You can tap the plus icon next to Quote on multiple peoples posts to quote them all at once in one mega post! Hope you enjoy the Shard!
Thank you!! Haha better a little correction up front than wandering around the forum looking like one of the ten fools

Very interesting theory! The phrases using "command" are especially interesting. And "survive" is very close to what I was thinking another of the commands would be.

Welcome to the Shard! If you could Worldhop to one planet what planet would it be?
Hmmm that's a tough one. Roshar has a lot of the action right now, and an abundance of investiture which would be neat. But I think I'd have to cheat and say Silverlight even though it's not technically it's own planet because a university in the cognitive realm sounds dope.

Welcome to the shard! Great to have you here. Which book is your favourite and why?
I *think* I'd say Hero of Ages because I loved watching everything resolve and Mistborn was my introduction to the cosmere so it was pretty intense. Sazed's ascension and all his knowledge coming together for a purpose was epic. Having said that I'm planning to do a cosmere re-read and now that I have everything to compare it to that might change.

I did wonder about that, but I wasn't sure there was confirmation it actually ended up happening as it wasn't listed in the text given in the chapter. I may be looking for secrets where there are none
It just stood out to me that he mentioned it specifically

When Hoid meets Odium in the epilogue, he says that he put his name in the contract he drafted for Dalinar. Do you think Hoid's original name is hidden somewhere in the text?

Thanks for starting this thread, I was very curious about this too! With the mention of aethers I also thought about Aether of Night, though I don't know much about it at all.

Salt and Spores

I was wondering this too, but also why salt is never really mentioned again after we leave the rock? You'd think there'd be some uses for it, assuming it's more plentiful/cheaper than silver as it is on our world
