  1. I’ll do top 5 (this is not best just my favorite) 1.) Dalinar 2.) Shallan 3.) Kelsier 4.) Lightsong 5.) Steris What is your favorite magic system?
  2. Isn’t Mistborn supposed to be the throughline series to the Cosmere as a whole? If so it just seems like a little bit of an odd choice to have such a tone shift
  3. My favorite magic system is Awakening. I like the mix it has of hard rules and wonder. It's fun and quirky and I also think it has a lot of untapped potential. I've never heard of Aether of Night but I will have to request it!
  4. Disclaimer: I have not yet read Eleventh Metal or Secret History, I will be reading them tomorrow. I am feeling disappointed in the way Era 2 has gone so far. I was so optimistic after the Alloy of Law. It was a nice, fast-paced intro to the new generation, and while it didn't have the most grand or epic plot, it was okay, it was the first novel in the series, no biggie. Then Shadows of Self was a little bit of a mess in my opinion, and while it had its moments of course, I thought it was way too busy and convoluted. Despite a good ending, with really nice emotional consequences it seemed for Wax, I didn't like that book very much. But, hey it was Book 2, that just happens sometimes. On to the Bands of Mourning. Started out nice, although Wax' trama wasn't as pronounced as I would have thought. Steris became one of my favorite characters in the series all the way through the party scene and then promptly did... pretty much nothing the rest of the book. Wayne became a caricature of himself this whole book and I really didn't like him this time. To me he is a very sincere character who puts on an act to cover up his pain and pureness of heart, like 70% sincere and 30% goofy. In this book he was maybe 30% sincere and 70% buffoon. Ugh. Then the stakes just felt really shallow. This person's dead! Nope just kidding, now this person's dead, gotcha! They're fine. *insert Oprah* You can heal, you can heal, everybody can heal!!! Sigh. Maybe my expectations were just too high. After the first and even the end of the second book I thought we were really going to explore some darker themes and have some real stakes. I feel like I just watched Avenger's Endgame or Rise of Skywalker. Let's go chase a macguffin and dont worry no one you like is gonna be in any real danger. I'm ranting, I just want y'all to know I have a lot of positive things I like about Era 2 as well, but the second half of BoM left a sour taste in my mouth. Here's hoping Secret History helps. Any discussion is welcome, I would love to work through these feelings with y'all!
  5. Thanks for the welcome! Are there any particular WoB that people like to go to after finishing all the books?
  6. Thanks for the welcome! I will have finished the Cosmere other than secret history, AU, and White Sands so my October TBR is (I’m stepping on my next video here but that’s okay lol) Dune, King of Thorns, Slow Regard of Silent Things, and Summer Knight. Then I might reread WoR and Oathbringer in prep for RoW Who is your favorite character in the Cosmere?
  7. W&W are a treasure although I wish they got more time together. I like how they are kind of a meld between Sherlock and Watson and Batman and Robin. With some Western gunslinger in good measure mixed in. I didn’t like Shadows of Self as much. It felt like too much was going on but also too small in scale (the ending was great though of course) I really enjoyed AoL a ton and BoM is going really strong so far
  8. Thank you for the welcome and the tip!! I have seen WoB mentioned many times on Reddit and I finally googled it trying to see if it was a book in the Cosmere I’d never heard of lol. Which is actually how I found this site. It’s amazing the work done here to compile everything, super excited to join the community!
  9. Yeah it isn’t done often. It just seems hard to recapture the magic/inspiration of the original series. Both sequels are really cool but don’t have that same certain something
  10. Yes! Spook is another one. Brandon is so good at this, he shows that just because you may not understand how someone talks, or just because they seem insignificant doesn’t mean they’re dumb or have less value it just means you don’t necessarily see it. And we see Spooks value in HoA. Also same thing with Parshmen, completely underestimated due to the arrogance of the Alethi. Lift has the best energy I admire her so much. Darn voidbringers... I’m about 150 pages from finishing BoM they are in the warehouse with the (spaceship???) and stuff is going down and I’m terrified.
  11. I have been in a musical if you count the movie my friends and I made in high school called Best of Newton TV - The Musical. I have seen the Musical 9 to 5 that my friend was in, it felt like I was there from 9 to 5 lol. I relate with Steris the most, she is very reserved and has a lot of self-perception issues because she doesn’t recognize her value like others do. One of my favorite things about Brandon is his ability to create characters that so many people can identify with and see aspects of themselves in. Who is the character you most identify with?
  12. I don’t know if this has been posted before but there are a lot of similarities between the original Avatar and Mistborn when you compare them to their sequel series in Legend of Korra and Wax and Wayne. I’m of a mind that Wax and Wayne is better executed but the similarities are there. A world that was saved, having an industrial revolution, callbacks to the previous series continuously, much smaller scope in plot, however other than SoS I think Mistborn Era 2 has been much better. Also on a side note Wax and Steris’ relationship is my favorite romantic thing Brandon has ever written with Siri/Sus being second. I’m on BoM so no spoilers please!
  13. Hello all! My name is Chase, I am a huge fan of Brandon the writer and more a fan of Brandon the person. I love talking about Fantasy in general and also can talk about Brandon and the cosmere/WoT till I’m blue in the face. I know most of you probably know more of the intricacies of the Cosmere and all the interrelated aspects, I am finishing my first read through currently with BoM and there’s a scene I’m on that is starting to get me hyped for the potential of where he is taking this... Cant wait to get into the discussion! I recently started a channel on YouTube, called Fantasy Talk, it’s a place where I can just have fun with making videos and get my thoughts out on what I’m reading and make fun skits and things, check me out if you find yourself stuck in a wagon on your way to the Shattered Plains with nothing better to do!
