Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
“Get the new soldier fitted in liv’ry!” The captain said to the new “deliv’ry.” Jancey was his name He wasn’t the same For in fighting his spirit was shiv’ry But his intuition proved itself keen From the beginning he’d claimed that he’d seen A Darkfriend within Yet thinking him dim Others thought Jancey himself was unclean After three days of frequent complaining Fifi was questioned, with Jancey claiming “Forsaken is she!” And then they did see The fair mask under which she’d been feigning Yet once the Forsaken was nearly dead Between both rivalry came to a head As Jancey stabbed her Fifi gasped, “You cur, I’ll have Aginor kill you in my stead!” Neither watch nor alarm nor the wolf’s howl Could stop Darkfriends from taking up the prowl O’er Jancey in tent Was sung a lament For a young life cut short by play most foul. A Brief Eulogy For the Fourth and Fifth Rings Author: The Green Man “…” Please thank the Green Man for his extensive commentary on this matter. We’ll see him at the Sixth Ring! Hey, at least that first nasty-looking creature bounced off the wall he set up trying to kill one of those Eastern people. Day 5 has begun! It will end in 23 hours’ time at 21:00 EST, or 2 AM GMT, December the 16th. Young Bard was killed! He was a Fal Dara Warrior. Hemalurgic Headshot was attacked, but the attack was deflected. STINK has been pinch-hit by A Joe in the Bush! Please welcome Joe. Everyone else, please maintain a good level of activity. I understand it’s difficult with finals and holidays and busy lives, but a more active populace makes for a better game. The Eye has 36 health remaining. The current layer of defence has 6 health remaining, and is the Sixth Ring. The Blight is currently attacking for 10. Two Creepers of the Blight have appeared! Their names are Nailicis and Nogard, and they will Send Runner N6 unless stopped. Screwtape is still alive, and will Send Runner D6 unless stopped. In addition, Wormwood is still alive, and will Send Runner N5 unless stopped. Poxx has Sent Runner, and is now dead. Randuir IsRand will continue attacking people tonight unless stopped. As will his new Creature friend, BrEn Memorium, which has now appeared. There is a lynch today. Emond’s Fielders Message: Please remember that PMs are closed. 1. Shifting Shadows shifted in the shadow Of a shifting and shadowy night The shifting moonlight did cast shadows On a shifty and Shadow-filled Blight As the shadows shifted all around him, Shifting Shadows, shadowed by the shifting Of the wolves who in shifts watched the shadows For shifty Shadowspawn listening, Was shifted from his place by a shadow Which shifting, shadowed forms failed to find And the stain spreading on Shifting Shadows Would have shifted a Shadowspawn’s mind To shift away from the man in the shadows, Whose blood shifted on shadowy ground, Shift towards the triumph of the Shadow Whose shadowed servants were shifting around. Day 4 has begun! It will end in 23 hours’ time at 21:00 EST, or 2 AM GMT, December the 14th. Ark1002 was killed! He was an Emond’s Fielder and Fal Dara Warrior. The Eye has 36 health remaining. The current layer of defence has 1 health remaining, and is the Third Ring. The Blight is currently attacking for 8. A Creeper of the Blight has appeared: Wormwood! It will Send Runner N5 unless stopped. In addition, Poxx is still alive, and will Send Runner on N4 unless stopped. A Creature of Aginor, which has been christened Randuir IsRand, has appeared! It will start attacking people N4 unless stopped. There is a lynch today. Emond’s Fielders message: Please remember that PMs are closed. Also, don’t forget rollover is an hour earlier than it was before. Regarding my profile picture, it’s not a new one—it’s actually one of my older ones, and I was itching to get back to my regular name anyways so I figured I may as well change the picture back. Writeup edited in (earlier than I expected; apparently I had gotten more done last night than I remembered)! I’ve decided that I’ll be doing mostly limericks as death writeups from now on, as I’m not very good at longer-form writeups (especially doing one every day), and you’re more likely to read and enjoy something short and rhyming anyways.- 583 replies

@Furamirionind That is correct. In addition, the second ring, while defending it does guard against Aginor/Moiraine’s vote manip, it does not protect one from the inherent vote negation of defence or sabotage.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches

Elak Dehlin, a man of great power In his riches he hated the Tower As he helped Moiraine He grew less insane Yet his expression was always dour. He despised witches within Tar Valon Yet he and Moiraine had started to bond ‘Gainst Callor’s advice (Which really was nice) He started helping guide her course along. Yet he too was a merchant in the North, And his dyes and his woollens he brought forth He sold quite a few But even he knew He stayed for people, and not money’s worth Despite all this he often was blamed Seven men stepped forward and him named Though only three stayed, The others were swayed And Dehlin was consigned to the dark flames. I’m very sorry rollover took so long this time. The blame for this can be placed entirely at my feet. I’ve set rollover at 22:00, later than I usually am awake past, especially to be staying up until 23:00 or 23:30 organising cycle results and posting the new thread, after doing the writeup. The initial reason for this was that I had schoolwork and finals coming up like many others, and pushed rollover back so I’d have enough time for those; however, the havoc it’s wreaked on my sleep schedule, considering I get up before 5:00, simply isn’t working anymore, and I fell asleep compiling rollover last night. To solve this problem, I am moving rollover to 21:00 EST (2 GMT), one hour earlier. I sincerely apologise if this messes with everyone’s schedules, but this seems the best way for me to find a balance of time. To account for the delay, and change in rollover times, this cycle will be extended to end Thursday the 13th (which conveniently solves another problem that had complicated 21 EST rollover for me, namely, 19:30 church which takes a while). Result PMs will be sent in a little bit. With all that being said.... Night 3 has begun! It will end in less than 48 hours’ time at 21:00 EST, or 2 AM GMT, December the 13th. MetaTerminal was lynched! He was part of Moiraine’s Circle. Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
One year ago The Great Lord stirred. Ishamael could tell how weak the seals truly were, after three thousand years of wearing away. The cuendillar was brittle enough that he would be able to escape into the world again. Freedom, a wonderful feeling after eternal sleep in the Pit of Doom, sealed by Lews Therin and his Companions so long ago. But unlike his previous sojourns, this one would be permanent. He slammed at the stone with a glove coated with the True Power, seeming to weaken it further, enough. Seizing what little of saidin he could through the walls of the prison, he tore a gateway out of the mountain. Yet this time, no tendril of the One Power linked him to it. After three millennia of sleep, the Chosen would emerge from Shayol Ghul, to do the Great Lord’s bidding. Perhaps Aginor and Balthamel had been freed first, but Ishamael intended to perform the most important task he had been set: to find, and kill at last, the reincarnate Lews Therin. And he knew exactly how. Giving utterance to a laugh that echoed in the valley of Shayol Ghul, Ishamael raised his hands, feeling saidin flow through him, the taint of the Great Lord’s counterstroke sliding off the barrier erected by his own power. The Blight bristled, surging, sensing the strength of its master. Southward it swept with renewed fury. The touch of the Great Lord had returned to the world. Now A renewed fury it indeed was. Callor stood, the middle hours of the night being the lot he had drawn for the watch. Around him, he could see the Blight’s tendrils snaking their way towards the camp at impossibly fast speeds. Having grown accustomed to repelling the things from two days of experience—had it only been two days under the witch’s Warder’s tutelage? it seemed so long—Callor drew his sword, setting his feet in a stance that allowed him mobility and flexibility. Moiraine may be a Darkfriend, he mused wryly, but this Lan fellow may be worth keeping her around. Wonder what made him decide to join with the witches? The stance he assumed was mirrored in the poses of the other soldiers—clearly, he was not the only one instructed in the usage of such a posture. The Creepers advanced, attacking, and Callor moved into the familiar stances. The Boar Rushes down the Mountain. The Courtier Taps his Fan became Parting the Silk became Heron Wading in the Rushes. One form to the next, blocking, attacking, fighting against the Shadow. Perhaps he had underestimated the Borderlanders’ toughness after all. He could see why warriors came here, came to wage war against the Dark One. Standing there, striking down Creepers on the right and left, his arms never seemed to tire of striking for the Light, his legs seemed as though they would hold him up forever, though thousands fall around him. Each tendril of shadow he struck down was a victory for the Light. Each overhanging branch of rotting vegetation, each rank weed, each insect which occasionally flew like a magnet straight towards him, each that was struck down delayed the Shadow. Callor even then ceased to think, to contemplate anything but the forms, to lose himself in the joy of striking a blow for the Light. It had seemed like an eternity later. Moiraine Sedai had assured him it had only taken ten minutes for him to go weary, for his defence against the encroaching Blight to no longer carry its full effectiveness. According to the witch’s account, which was delivered with little emotion, Alkoo had elected to throw himself among the vast carpet of Creepers and tendrils, sacrificing himself to spare Callor from suffering the same fate. Callor could not fathom why anybody would die for him. Light, he’d not, given the chance. He had tried asking Lan, but he’d simply responded with, “It is every man’s right to decide when to Sheathe the Sword.” Flaming lot of good that’d been! Moiraine arched an eyebrow, and Callor realised he’d spoken aloud. Covering his mouth and reddening, he retreated back into a silent brooding at the table, thinking of Alkoo. The image of the Ogier, with a sad smile on his face, vanishing into the cloud of Blight make Callor shudder, yet he could not look away, just that section repeating in his head over and over, the Blight slowly advancing. Though it seemed to be going at a less vigorous pace than before, there was no question that it was creeping up, and that they had lost a layer around where Moiraine Sedai thought the Eye was. From Callor’s view, there were only 6 layers left before the Eye itself was breached. He sent a silent prayer to the Light they would last that long. Day 3 has begun! It will end in 22 hours’ time at 22:00 EST, or 3 AM GMT, December the 11th. Xinoehp512 was killed! He was Roleless. The Eye has 38 health remaining. The current layer of defence has 1 health remaining, and is the Second Ring. The Blight is currently attacking for 6. Two Creepers of the Blight have appeared: Poxx and Kanker! Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Exepins pushed pen to paper, recording supplies for Lord Agelmar. No, not him. His imbecile apprentice Aliath was performing that service for the lord, now. No, he was in the Blight now, recording for Moiraine Sedai, tallying the food they all had in reserve. It was easy work, if arduous, and Exepins’ mind wandered. The camp had certainly had its share of battles since reaching the fringes of the Blight. It had begun with the attack on him, of course, the aftereffects of which Moiraine’s healing could not fully dispel. His head still ached, with the Dark One’s own will seeming to try to split it in half, part of what was dragging this blasted paperwork for so long. Then the attack on the village youth. Exepins always was saddened to see such men die. He had seemed like a good lad, one that would have been a hardy captain had he stayed in the Borderlands with them, disciplined and focused—and strong. He shook his head, refocusing on the pile of papers on the floor of his tent with a grimace. The injury, and recent events, must have really gotten into him if he was letting his mind run off during scribing. Setting to his papers with a vengeance, he banished all thoughts from his head, setting his mind to the task of finishing up. Only then could he rejoin the others. The others were discussing the best way to kill him, conversing in indignant whispers. “He’s clearly still a Darkfriend. I mean, just look at how he’s not even talking to us! Any man with a true fear of the Light would be begging for us to examine him!” “Aw, stuff it, you sound too much like that dolt Whitecloak. He’s a Darkfriend from his survival! It’d take the Dark One’s own luck to live through a thumping like the one I gave him yesterday.” A muted chortle followed the statement, and was quickly extinguished. Callor’s voice could be heard as well. “Anyone a witch like that Moiraine figure offers healing to must be a fellow Darkfriend. That is the reason we are killing him, the reason I sent two people to distract Moiraine with talk of ter’angreal, yes? Let’s figure this out.” A sigh emanated from the group. “What, then, do you propose? If we simply kill him, Moiraine will be no less displeased. And we can’t exactly fail to be traced to any murder that did happen with him.” Callor’s eyes could have frozen a candle flame. “I have a plan.” The Blight did not think. Not in the way that a man thought, at least. But it did know exactly what it wanted—to advance. To swallow whole. Such were its limitations, and its advantages. But it constantly sought a new path, a way around the flashing swords of the humans that kept its creepers and tendrils at bay. It found one at last, a small barrier in place in one patch of ground, a weakness it could break through. Two, actually. The Creepers coagulated, forming a rough hammer which crushed the layers of dirt separating the Blight from a shallow trench that had been dug quickly. From the two holes it rushed in, Creepers swallowing the trench with a speed that defied the eye. Eventually, the Creepers met in the middle, unable to further advance out. Yet a rough circle had been created, and its interior was vulnerable. And within the circle stood a man in a tent, hunched over his scribework, blissfully unaware that camping out so close to the Blight had been a poor choice. Exepins’ fellow warriors watched as the Blight eagerly swallowed the circle: land, tent, and the man they believed to be a Darkfriend. Except, of course, that he wasn’t. Night 2 has begun! It will end in 22 hours’ time at 22:00 EST, or 3 AM GMT, December the tenth. Snipexe was lynched! He was a Hardy Fal Dara Warrior. Right now they just have a general section to edit, which I post at the beginning of the Day turns. And there is a message, by the way. It’s just spoiled for length I mean, I guess I won’t stop you if you really want to. Also, if you want a vote count, Karnatheon’s is correct.- 583 replies

It can be redirected. Whether or not it will do anything, PAFO. And thank you for the reminder, Fura—I need to post a fresh batch of rules clarifications, and should hopefully have it up with the new Night cycle in 6 hours’ time. That’s also the amount of time you all have to get your orders in.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
“The Light is our refuge and strength,” Callor whispered to himself, face buried in his hands, “a present help in calamity and shadow.” Outside, the night was split by the cries of wolves. Callor remained in his small tent, not daring to venture out. “Therefore we will not fear though the ground collapse, though the Spine of the World be moved into the Aryth Ocean, though its waters roar and foam to flood the coastland at its swelling.” The wolves’ cries grew more frantic. Callor could hear human voices mingled with them. He hunkered further down. “There is a land whose rivers make glad the city of the Light, the holy habitation of the Creator.” Definitely a battle, then. Or at least a skirmish. Callor did not understand why wolves were involved, though. The filthy creatures must have been summoned by a Darkfriend. “The Creator is in the midst of her; she will not be moved; the Dragon will help her when morning dawns.” A human, in the direction of the howling, screamed. As Callor listened, heart thumping in his chest, one of the wolves’ howls ended in a whimper, and a second was cut off. “The Shadow raged and kingdoms tottered, the Dragon’s voice sounded, and the earth melted.” The rest of the camp was awake now. Callor could hear the witch’s Warder calling orders to the Fal Darans, who had rushed out to help. He, however, sat, paralysed by fear and indecision. “The Light is with us, and the Creator is our fortress. Behold, the works of his Dragon, and the Breaking he has unleashed upon the earth.” A Breaking. Callor felt as if his world was breaking, certainly. A battle raged outside, yet for once, Callor did not know where the Darkfriends lay in the conflict. Hot tears spilled down his cheek. Outside, yelling, the sound of swords unsheathed. “For at his coming wars shall cease to the ends of the earth, the spears broken and the chariots set to fire.” The commotion was dying down, now. The keening of wolves had dimmed to a cadence which seemed almost mournful, reverent. What had happened outside? He could not say. Why wouldn’t his legs work? “Be still; know the Light‘s eternal presence; it shall be exalted in the earth, even in the Darkfriends shall it be exalted! The Light is with us, and the Creator is our fortress” Callor set down the book, gently, solemnly; it had served its purpose. Slowly climbing to his feet, he cast aside his tent flap. Peering outside, he saw nothing to suggest a battle. No corpses littered, except a few of the wolves, and those were little loss. Moiraine and Lan were up, and the witch’s circle brooded furiously around her, muttering about ta’veren and bad timing. The witch herself looked stricken, her eyes on a corpse under the two wolves. A man with golden eyes. Day 2 has begun! It will end in 22 hours’ time at 22:00 EST, or 3 AM GMT, December the ninth. Devotary of Spontaneity was killed! She was Perrin Aybara, and an Emond’s Fielder. The Eye has 38 health remaining. The current layer of defence has 1 health remaining, and is the Outermost Ring. The Blight is currently attacking for 8. There is a lynch today. Please remember that PMs are closed. @Ookla the Libre, failure to post today will result in you being pinch-hit, so please talk in-thread. Emond’s Fielders’ message: Player List: 1. Just a heads-up that there’s a little less than four hours this cycle, so get your orders in. Also, while any pinch-hitters are still available, any player who does not post in-thread for three straight turns, irrespective of activity in docs or submission of orders, will be replaced.- 583 replies

Mid-Range Game 32: The Blight Encroaches
Fifth Scholar replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Y’all ask lots of questions. This is a full list of all rules clarifications that have been issued since the beginning of C1 which can’t be found in the rules. Quiet Murmurs reads like a passive, more so than an action. Clarification that it doesn't count as an action? From the rules: “Except for the Forsaken/Agents group kill, roleblock, and Creature of Aginor summon, all group actions are done by vote in a doc, with the person or NPC unit with the most votes being the recipient of that action. These votes do not count as an action.” So yes, no action is required. I believe Mat is restricted to making a single PM per night to only one person, and that the GMs should be included in it? This belief is correct. Do the writeups reveal pertinent in-game information? No, they do not. Would you be willing to confirm that there is only one of each role? There is at most one of each named character (Padan Fain, Rand, Moiraine, Green Man, etc.) and at most twenty of every other role (Emond’s Fielder, Warrior of Fal Dara, Agent of the Blight, Hardy, etc.). Will excess damage to a layer of defence carry over to the next layer (or to the Eye)? Yes, it will. Would you be informed if your action was redirected or roleblocked? Yes. Are Roleless players part of the Light by definition? Yes? There can be Agents with no special abilities other than their Agent-hood, though. Is it theoretically possible for someone to be in 2 of the following: Moiraine's Circle, Edmond's Fielder, Fal Dara Warrior? PAFO. Is there any distinction in the write-up between someone surviving an attack due to a second life vs. do to a protect action? Yes, you will be able to tell. If a protect is successful, what will the protector and protected be told? The protector will know their protect was successful; the protected will know they were protected, though not how. When people die, are their roles and/or alignment revealed? Yes. I’m not that much of a troll. Are you able to confirm that there is at least 1 of each role? (not including roleless) I cannot confirm that, as I am not giving away any secrets about distribution, and that would qualify as one, however minor. Can Aginor and Balthamel take group actions for the Evil faction as well as the Agents of the Blight? Yes. Can the PMs Mat creates be used for the rest of the game, or just the following cycle? The rest of the game. When will NPCs get names? When there’s enough that differentiation becomes necessary. If Fain targets a Hardy player who has already lost one life, will that player die? Unless Fain is roleblocked, yes. Can Moiraine be in her own circle? Would she count as a full member, adding 2 health to the Eye? She could, and yes, she would be a full member if she was in the doc. You clarified in the rules that the Blight gains three attack each time it fails to destroy a layer of protection, but when it finally succeeds, will its attack then increase by one, i.e. 2-5-8-11-12-13..., or actually drop back down, i.e. 2-5-8-11-6-9? The latter—it will return to its base attack. Will we be told how much defense is provided to the eye each turn? Or how much damage was dealt after blocks? No, you will not be told defence numbers (or sabotage numbers, for that matter). You will see the final amount of damage assigned, though. If Padan Fain or an Agent are part of the Fal Dara Warriors doc, could they have an extra life? They could. Rand or Aginor could have double extra lives as well, should they be Hardy Fal Dara Warriors. Does this mean the two Forsaken also have the Concealment passive, allowing them to be in the anonymous docs? Yes, the concealment ability applies to all Evil-aligned players. To be clear, however, the Sabotage action is not available to the Forsaken, but Concealment is. Will we know if a players vote was affected by the 20% miss chance? Or will we just know 4 people voted for A. But B with 3 votes got eliminated instead? The final vote tally will show negated votes like this: Before=Joe (4): Wilson, Orlok, Maill, Elbereth After=Joe (3): Wilson, Orlok, Maill, Elbereth Votes modified as a result of Aes Sedai Persuasion will appear as the actual name of the player whose vote was redirected. Also, is there a lynch every EVERY cycle or just day cycles? The rules say every cycle. Cycles=48 hours, split into Day/Night turns. There is a lynch every cycle, on the Day turns. I’ve tried to be consistent with wording but knowing me I’ve probably slipped somewhere, so if you find an inconsistency please tell me. >> Are there secrets in this game? Secrets are possible. This includes secret roles, secret trolls, secret stoles, and secret moles. The first two are significantly more likely than the third, and the fourth really depends on the definition you use.- 583 replies
