  1. I stand corrected, then. But for inter-city flight, couldn't Nin fly in some sort of zig-zag motion, avoiding big population centres? It was mentioned upthread already, but Roshar gives the impression of being much less densely populated than Earth, even Earth a few centuries ago. He'd lessen the number of people who could notice him this way, and those witnesses would be so far apart they - or anyone they shared it with - wouldn't get the opportunity to compare notes. For an out-of-the-blue guess: with Stormlight being basically a form of Investiture, could Nin get it via other magic system? We know already that there was some clandestine contact between Roshar and Nalthis (can't dig up the WoB now, but it basically said that Nightblood was based on Shardblades). Could Nin be doing something like storing Breaths, or keeping them somwhere for later use? No idea where he'd get the Breaths from, though, Rosharans don't have them (do they?). For a less out-of-the-blue and more in-universe guess: he could be carrying a bag of globes with him and "feed" off them in-flight. Perhaps, being thousands of years old, he collected many of those manufactured in a way that lets them keep Stormlight for the longest. As for your second comment, makes sense.
  2. With no offense meant, aren't you (and others discussing the matter) overestimating the distance at which people can recognize a human silhouette? If he was flying at, say, 3,000 metres (with Stormlight, he wouldn't have trouble breathing), how likely is he to be spotted, let alone recognized as human? Not to mention that "surgebinded" flight seems to be rather fast - at least that's the impression I've gotten. For all we know, Nin could've been noticed by a dozen or more people while flying and they were all "I'd swear I've seen a black spot in the sky just a moment ago... eh, probably just imagined it." And remember that this was still the point where no-one but surgebinders themselves knew that surgebinding is back. People could've seen a human form, then figured that humans can't fly and concluded that they must've mistaken some other shape for a human. We do have problems with that.
  3. Can't help but agree, the set-up is pretty clear. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to see Adolin bringing his shardblade back to life? The very scene has the Awesome potential of Szeth vs. Kaladin fight. EDIT for a potentially-stupid idea: as we know there are Nalthisians on Roshar (Vasher/Zahel and Nightblood), how about using Breaths to Awaken the blade as some sort of spren-Lifeless or Type IV? Would this be even possible?
  4. You get both, but you can't utilize one without the other; as a result, you can only lift yourself half a feet in the air before you run out of stormlight, and you gain weight every time you try. I wish to never fall ill.
  5. A Windrunner killing Skybreaker's Herald, for example? Given the apparent history of animosity between those two orders, I can reasonably see the entire Order (which still exist, doesn't it?) gunning for Kaladin. All the more reason for this to happen, story-wise.
  6. Why not indeed? I'll have to look around some more before setting on something, though.
  7. Thanks! English isn't my native tongue, so I'm writing like this because this it pretty much the way I've been taught. Having had some time to lurk around, I did notice that the Dark Alley adds some spiky... surprises to their cookies.
  8. Ah, thank you both. I'll sure check around the guilds tomorrow (today? It's 2 in the morning...).
  9. I expect Adolin to survive, mostly because he looks to me like he's about to go through a ton of character development he hasn't yet seriously started on. Dalinar though... Yeah, he'll either ascend or die. Also, Taln. He might be emotionally broken, but as a Herald, he's probably way too much of an advantage for the heroes, with his knowledge and memory, to keep alive by our esteemed writer. Besides, the series has sort of "changing of the guard" feel to me, and Taln's death would fit the theme nicely. The same for Nale. I can see him going after one of the new Radiants (probably Shallan, as someone has noted above) and gettin tag-teamed by a few if them. Not to mention that it would give an opportunity for Shallan and Adolin to have a little heart-to-heart about her past. I wonder what the consequences of a Radiant killing a Herald would be.
  10. Hmmm. I'd certainly take it under consideration. What's the fine print? And, while I'm asking questions, just what is the Dark Alley? *feels kind of stupid as it's probably a Cosmere reference she should've recognized on sight*
  11. ... That is somewhat worrying.
  12. Hello! Name's Rasarr, and I'm a writer... well, aspiring writer, at any rate. Also an adept online cheerleader and a Person Who Never Understands Sarcasm, Ever. I've got drawn into the forums after reading through the pages of threads on translating codes and scripts of Stormlight Archive and becoming enamored with your hive mind-esque skills at theorizing and figuring stuff out. I got introduced to Cosmere by Alloy of Law cover in the local bookstore, which had the title translated to my native tongue so clunkily, I just had to check out what's up with it. As you can guess, the translated title didn't do the book justice. Fast forward half a year, I've got pretty much everything read and have begun the process of re-reading. (It's a cycle. I read, re-read, then read stuff that has come out during the re-read, then re-read again...) Favourite is probably Stormlight Archive and it's many, many mysteries, which explains how I found myself here. If you offer me cookies, I'll probably decline. Unless they're with chocolate, then I'll probably steal the whole plate.
