  1. Well, that was certainly one hell of a ride. 40 hours (yes, including sleep) and 7 cups of tea later, and I'm finished. Don't think I'll do that for the next book though, as I have less of an idea what happened at the end in the avalanche.

Maybe it was for that reason that I found the avalanche somewhat underwhelming? I don't know, I just felt like there wasn't enough major plot twists concerning the assumptions we make throughout the story, and that it ended to nicely? I was expecting more dead people, but pretty much everybody made it through, and that kind of felt weird? Then again, this is possibly the result of reading for pretty much 2 days without doing much else, so, take it with a grain of salt

    Anyway, favourite bits:

-Jasnah. Yes. So much Jasnah. Very good. 10/10. Now also Queen in more ways than one. I found the references to her so-called 'lunacy' interesting, and I look forwards to seeing if it was actually lunacy was actual lunacy or something else with the easy label stuck on (she isn't afraid of being controversial after all...)

-The Girl Who Looked Up and Shallan + Hoid storytelling. This was particularly touching for me, as Shallan's experiences with her past and the way she deals with it (badly) are resonant with my own experiences. I was crying when Hoid was consoling Shallan, it just felt like such a touching and personal moment.

-Spren cities! I just wish we got to see a bit more of these! It looks sooooo interesting!

-Dalinar's flashbacks. Not quite sure what I think of him now... In a good way that is.

-Kaladin's breakdown in Kholinar. This just felt like it was brimming with character. Tragic, but well written. (But please don't hurt him anymore Brandon)

-Elkohar's character development. But then he just had to die.... (damnation it Sanderson)

-Queen Fen. I really hope we'll see more of her in future.

-Rock being group mum with everybody coming to him for advice.

-Trashy Rosharan Romance (Wema and Sterling all the way :P )

I didn't know about ES being a different publisher since I have the AU edition. I wasn't counting Dynamite in the Cosmere publishing since Tor, as far as I know, doesn't have a graphic novel division.

Also I believe that some of the later books (Era 2 and AU so far) are published by Gollancz despite most others being done by Tor, although I believe it is only outside the US (at the very least UK versions)

  3. If by "bookmark" you mean nearest piece of paper/other flat thing, yeah, I use bookmarks. All my bookmarks that are actually designed to be a bookmark always seem to slip into non-existence... most frustrating

Also, how do you people even remember what page you were on though. Seriously, how do you people not forget?

should we run this like an alcoholics anonymous meeting? Hello, I'm I Am Witless, and I have been Stormlight-free for the past two months.

Well done Witless!! You've come so far! (this just makes me think of the shark support group in Finding Nemo)

But yeah, I do feel you. School work is proving to take up most of my life. Luckily it comes out pretty much a week before my last exam, so I won't be waiting long. I'm so used to no bothering with Cosmere spoilers that I sometimes ignore spoiler tags, so I have a vague idea about some things which will happen

And in fantasy books I have too many, Halt (Rangers Apprentice) for being awesome, Percy Jackson for being both funny and awesome, and Beren from the Silmarillion for completing a quest that made destroying the One Ring look like crossing the street. And I have many, many more.

Yes! I love Halt (and Will, and Horace, and Evelyn, and Alyss, and Tug of course), the perfect combination of sassiness and bad-assery. Him, Will and Horace are such a great team together, and their personalities are so much fun to read. Perhaps one day, Will and Horace will learn how to ask one question at a time...

Other favorite characters would include Fitz and the Fool from Realm of the Elderlings (probably my most cried over characters) as well as Uncle Iroh (giver of insanely good advice and tea) and Maka Albarn from Soul Eater.

  6. If I outline, it just ends up going completely differently, so I normally have a general idea of whee the story ends, and I know exactly how the book will end. So I know where I'm going, I just don't know how.

LOL!!!! Violas are underrated. They barely get any attention, and barely anyone knows what they are.

    [insert viola joke]

disclaimer: I don't play viola, but my sister does and studies it at uni

Viola jokes. The best kind of music jokes.

How can you tell if a viola is playing out of tune? The bow moves.

What is the difference between the first and last viola desks? About half a bar.

(And these are the ones I have heard from viola players)

  8. Novels:

    1. Final Empire ('cause Kel)

    2. Hero of Ages (A book with lots of Elend in it, and now my tears too...)

    3. Words of Radiance

    4. Warbreaker

    5. Way of Kings

    6. Well of Ascension

    7.Bands of Mourning

    8. Elantris

    9. Shadows of Self

    10. Alloy of Law

    11. White Sand

    Short Stories:

    1. Emperor's Soul

    2. Secret History (the sounds of my screams is now embedded into my Kindle)

    3. Allomancer Jak (Hilarious story, loved every word and annotation)

    3. Sixth of the Dusk

    4. Shadows for Silence

  9. From what I have heard from a lot of people, is that, the show just isn't as fun anymore, and I would agree. I haven't seen much classic who, but with the new Who, the first 2 and a half doctors and their adventures were (mostly) fun adventures where they went exploring in some alien and unique place. There were dark episodes and sad moments, but the majority of the show was fun, and I can't help but feel that we've lost some of that in the more recent seasons where there have been so many more dark themes.

But Jodie Whitaker is going to be fantastic.

Jon being King in the North also bothers me, he is a bastard with no right to the throne, and thinking that Bran and Rickon are dead, Sansa should be Queen in the North.

I don't really think they're concerned with legitimacy at the moment, and Jon has earned their trust. Robert didn't have any legitimacy when he took the throne, and in times of crisis, people become less and less concerned with if somebody has legitimate claim to the throne, and legitimacy can always be created afterwards when you're looking to secure power.

Does anyone else think that Jon bending the knee was totally out of character?

I don't think so, before the most recent chapter? Maybe, but I think he realised, as did Dany, that there was something more important than who was bowing to whom, while he may have known it before, he knew that she believed him and knew the importance of the threat, as well as being reminded of the threat.
