  1. Haha, good to know, Voidus.
  2. Well, for an Elantrian losing the devotion, I don't think that matters much. The Hoed definately didn't have devotion anymore, and they didn't become un-shaod-ified. And I doubt the entire fully realised Elantrian society stayed constantly devoted. The Shaod is, I feel, more like a pat on the back from the remnants of Devotion saying "Hey! Thanks for upholding my intent and stuff. Here you go." And for the Nahel Bond, I would imagine that without the personality shift like you suggested, yes, the spren would die. I think the big question here is if the spren could actually be tricked well enough to choose a person under a rioter's influence. A crazy combo-thought to consider is what if a forger teamed up with a rioter? The rioter flares the metal, makes Honor the key trait, and the forger prepares a stamp that essentially writes a history for that person where that Honor was natural. I wonder if that would stick at all. And that makes me think of a forger's use for Sellish magic on a foreigner. Would it be that big of a stretch to stamp someone to adjust the place they were born in their history? Forging is one of those magics I don't understand very well, and I need to go back and reread the book, but I don't think it would be that hard of a stamp compared to rewriting one from scratch. Especially if you had the cooperation of the person you were stamping to fill out details and such.
  3. Another thought on this that just occurred. Compounding. Theoretically, because compounding causes disgusting augmentation of the feruchemical ability, the compounder could use crazy amounts of investiture by burning their Nicrosil-minds. Sanderson has said using other world's magics would be difficult and require a lot of energy...well..I think this sort of compounding could definately have some impact in that regard if the Twinborn could figure out how to use it.
  4. Ehh, kind of hard to say. The characters go through their mood swings, and my opinion of them sways. I like Kaladin a lot, but his little depression spirals kind of hurt him. Overall, I'd probably say Jasnah. She's just awesome. Yours?
  5. Haha, thanks for the welcome, and the cookie. It was delicious. I've read most of the cosmere stuff except for White Sand. And I'm about to read Sixth of the Dusk. Eventually I'd like to get my hands on a copy of White Sand, as well. And if I see you anywhere around me with a hemalugic spike..I'll keep an eye on you.
  6. As far as I can tell, not much is known about Nicrosil. As a feruchemical metal, it stores investiture. So my thought is about Twinborn. Any allomatic metal with a feruchemy based in Nicrosil would result in simulated Duralumin flares. My thoughts on that are this: You being filling your Nicrosil metalmind, then burn your allomatic metal. The investiture that results in is then absorbed in the metalmind. Burn a whole lot of your allomatic metal when you don't need it, and it would be readily available from your metalmind upon command, presumably at whatever flared level you desire since Feruchemists can alter that, so I guess it could range from normal allomancy levels up to duralumin levels. Some good applications I could think of for this is never needing to sleep with metals in your system, but always having a stockpile, even when just waking. Allowing Twinborn to extensively flare/burst their metals without the use of Duralumin. And some other stuff that I'm too tired to think of at the moment. Anyone know if I'm completely misunderstanding Nicrosil? Thoughts?
  7. So, I may be understanding some things wrong here, but as I see it, a Rioter with the ability to worldhop could be one of the most useful tools ever. On Sel, inhabitants that feel great devotion are chosen by the Shaod...a rioter could inspire that to essentially pick and choose who became Elantrian. And could a rioter do this to themselves? Riot a sense of home, for lack of a better term, for Elantris to satisfy Dominion's 'requirement' of being a local? On Roshar, the Spren that came to the physical world seeking a host to bond with were drawn by certain traits. A rioter could riot a sense of honor, devotion, etc. Could a rioted emotion fool a spren long enough to bond? Can't think of much application on Nalthis other than abusing it to convince people to give you their breath, which, admittedly, would be useful. Thoughts or corrections? (Sorry if this has already been discussed. I poked around and didn't really see much in this regard. Still new to the forums so I'm not really caught up with "old news")
  8. Hey there, folks. I recently discovered Brandon Sanderson through Mistborn. I was hooked, and then devastated when I discovered that Alloy of Law wasn't a standalone and I had stumbled into yet another in-progress series. Then, I discovered just how in-progress it was once I learned of the Cosmere. Oh geez. BUT. I don't mind much, because it is wonderful, and it keeps my imagination pumping. I'm a big fan of theory-crafting, so I'll probably be found poking around in those threads, but I'm still learning about the cosmere, so don't skewer me if I say anything stupid, please. Heh. -Ugouka
